see i had scans as they thought my babies were small, they predicted 6-7lb.
my first was 8lb 7oz, then ds2 was 9lb 3oz, ds3 also small they said... 9lb 5oz.
ds4 was 10lb 13oz, had him in the birth pool, labour an hour long, no stitches required, am sure being in the pool helped.
anyway after having 4 'good sized' babies the consultant decided i 'may' be having a big baby with no, i however knew different, i could tell that the baby weighed less, having carried big babies i could just feel the difference, consutlant did a scan and said 9lb+ i said no not that big. he wnet on to say i may need a c section as baby was large, i did point out i had delivered 4 big babies vaginally just fine, all naturally, he said that was just 'luck'....maybe or maybe it shows that my body labours fine and can birth big babies..
anyway dd was 8lb exactly, so not 9lb+ like they said she was and i laboured fine, despite her being back to back.
i think scans can be helpful but they are often 10+% out, i measured small for dates and had small bumps, didnt put on loads of weight but still had big babies. i am only 5 2 and small, but delivered them all fine. i think staying mobile and trying out different postions helped, i found delivering kneeling up was good, or on all fours, positions that help your pelvis open up wide!
