Lights on at night?

I am on the maternity ward after having my baby boy yesterday by elcs & struggling to sleep as it is hospital policy to leave all of the bright flourescent lights on. Surely this is not normal? With my first 2 dc I had my own room but this time I am sharing & it is a nightmare what with visitors that wouldn't leave, loud phone conversations & letting babies cry & the lights is just a step too far :o(

Congratulations!

No, it is not normal. Figure out where the switches are and turn them off if you can. If it really is policy, which seems really weird, then I don't know what to suggest in the immediate term - PALS, maybe? Talk to the ward manager / lead midwife / consultant?

On our ward they switched them all off at 11pm after the nightshift midwives had been round and introduced themselves and said press the buzzer if you need anything. They would then turn the individual light on in your cubicle if you needed to change baby etc.

lights should be off no later than 11. you can have bedside lights on but no the main ward lights. there is something very wrong if that is their policy. in an emergency they may need to put them on or if they are very busy and it's taking a while to get round but really, in the normal run of things, lights OUT!

Thanx ladies, I still had my catheter in so couldn't move last night but tonight I will be switching them off because I need my sleep. I spoke to a different midwife this morning & she couldn't understand why they were left on so the one who told me that they had to be was obviously talking nonsense Angry

Hi squigglet I remember you from pregnancy board. Congratulations! Hope you are doing ok aside from silly light policy.

They left the middle strip on when I was in and then proceeded to clean out the bay next to me at 3am whilst chatting loudly. So annoying isn't it?
