Good first labour, horrific 2nd labour anyone?

Fast, easy uncomplicated, no intervention..
then long, intervention or complicated?

What are the chances of good followed by bad?

Nope first two were ok, third took twice as long though! Wink

Dozeyland · 08/02/2012 20:03

oh no!

I really do wonder how this one will go, I know you can't predict. but just wonder if i'll be lucky again or not!

Marking my place too!!

Bad 1st labour, great 2nd labour, trying to tell myself that the third will be faster now I'm used to it but my midwife tells me the third tends to be very unpredictable....

JKSLtd · 08/02/2012 21:20

1st - long & slow but Home Birth, no tear/stitches, all fine.

2nd - undiagnosed breech, emergency transfer from home to hosp for a c-s.

Though standard recovery so really it wasn't horrific just upsetting.

PacificDogwood · 08/02/2012 21:20

Induction, emCS, followed by VBAC x2 (both v fast) Grin.

All 'good' deliveries, in their own way.

Good luck!

SweetGrapes · 08/02/2012 21:43

emCS, then VBAC (fab textbook delivery), another VBAC - very fast - too fast. Baby and I both sore, numb and shocked.

Dozeyland · 08/02/2012 22:10

I couldnt believe it on OBEM just then with the second lady, poor baby getting stuck. she had a normal first labour. god i hope this one isnt going to be horrific. i know its so unpredictable each time, but what makes it more likely to be difficult? intervention?

Dozeyland - her baby was rather a lot larger than her first one though and although they didn't specify, I am guessing that she was induced. It is a rare occurrence indeed for the second to be so much worse. Usually things go well second time around, I know I'm a midwife!

Dozeyland · 12/02/2012 19:57

Maxbear thats reassuring! I class my first as straight forward & good. but had a PPH1000lms 2hrs after. so just hope that doesnt happen again! and also just hope i have time to get to the hospital!

First one quick and relatively easy. Second a little longer but very, very exciting. No pain relief on either occasion.

Dozeyland · 12/02/2012 20:14

What would be the most common reason for longer or complicated subsequent labours?

OP posts:
YouSonOfABitch · 14/02/2012 20:17

first long and complicated forceps, second faster but retained placenta, third induced and only 1 hour 45 mins from 3cm to birth!

mosschops30 · 14/02/2012 20:23

Ok first labour
Great 2nd labour
Horrendous 3rd labour

Its totally random

Good luck Smile

chocolateygoo · 14/02/2012 22:07

Great first labour, gradual progression, felt in control, in the pool, not too painful.

Second labour couldn't get the midwife on the phone to take me seriously, DD born 45 mins after arriving at MLBU, 4 mins after water broke! No pool, no pain relief, no calm control, just a lot of screaming...

Second labours tend to be faster but that's not necessarily better!

Dozeyland · 15/02/2012 09:23

That's what I mean, dd's was quick, and I did it naturally. Just wondered
Aswel what the chances of needing intervention 2nd time after easy first labour.

I found the pain intense but managable naturally. Just hope this time
I have enough time to get to the hospital if its meant to be faster :s

Both my labours have been good and bad in different ways! My first was quick with a 2nd degree tear, 2nd baby needed more shoving along as was a longer labour but only a 1st degree tear with no stitches needed.

I had a homebirth because I was predicted a very fast labour but it didn't happen. I think in a way I struggled to relax at home.
