Hi .
I had a very long labour with my daughter and a long second stage. Im getting very nervous about doing it again. My midwife keeps saying second births are much quicker, but I'm just not convinced ! :) anyone have any experience of either being quicker second time or not? X

Just found this thread and it's give me hope of a shorter labour this time round! DS was 40 hours, I'd love it to be a little less this time... I'll let you know in three (or so) weeks!

Very much like TRL.

First labour was very prolonged, especially the scond stage. The 2nd labour, even though it was a pessary induction at 35 weeks, was only about 4 hours.

In the 2nd labout though I only had gas and air. I think the (not very effective) epidural in the 1st labour made things worse.

My first labour was 66 hours in total, very long latent part at home after waters broke, then had syntonocon drip and gave birth 12 hours after that was started. 2 hours of pushing.
Next one due any day, I will report back!

Total marathon for the first, three days - started Sat eve and had dd1 with no intervention Tues am after epi.

Dd2 - 1 hr 19mins from start to finish, was in hospital for 11 mins before she was born. All a bit scary actually. Grin

maxpower · 08/02/2012 14:52

first labour 36 hrs ending in emcs
second labour 2 hrs start to finish

if only I'd known, I'd have enjoyed my 2nd pg so much more than I did

I love this thread. First was 36 hours from waters going with horrendous pain and no dilation until eventually given induction drip, all day wait and culminating in over 2 hours of pushing. Second due in about a month. Can't face another long one again. This thread has given me hope.....

1st labour - flipping days of 10 minute apart contractions
2nd 1.5 hours from start (waters broke, contractions came 20 minutes later)

BabydollsMum · 08/02/2012 23:49

Thank you so much for posting this! Definitely want another but I know I'm going to be terrified when the time comes after a very traumatic 38 hours the first time 'round. Good luck! xx

yes!!

!st labour 38hours, stayed stuck at 6cm for 17hours, doc suggested epi (which was welcomed at that stage) within 4hours was pushing, followed by retained placenter, lots of stitches down there and 4days of blood transfusions.

2nd (9weeks ago) started 2pm ish thought were bh by 5pm were painful ish still cooked tea and put dd to bed (with dh reading the story while i was having contractions) mum came over 9pm ( i had it in my head i wasnt in labour and was just BH even when i was crying between contractions lol) was made to ring hospital at 12.15am she said go straight to hospital got there at 12.40am and had ds at 12.55am and was home by 4am, no stitches.

I had put dd to bed the night before and when she woke up at 6am the next morning we were already home with her baby brother! was a great suprise for her and the look on her face was amazing!!

First was 30 hours start to finish.

Second time I had mild contractions for a couple of hours on the Saturday night, then the same thing again on the Wednesday night. Enough for me to recognise them as contractions, but not painful. Thursday night it kicked off just before 11 pm, DS was born at 3.02 am.

IHeartIona · 09/02/2012 18:47

Reporting back now have had 2nd labour (dd2 born 4.39am!):

1st labour, 66 hours total, accelerated with drip after waters broke and 48 hrs with only a little dilatation. 12 hours on drip to birth, 2 hours pushing followed by episiotomy and forcepsndelivery.

2nd labour, seen 1.30 am 2 cm, home at 2am, back in hospital at 4am, 12 mins from waters breaking to birth, 12 mins pushing - 4 pushes! Birth 40 mins after arriving at 4.39! Half an hour of gas and air and tens throughout early labour at home (approx 18 hrs from contractions starting, but easily Managed with TENS)

LiviaAugusta · 04/03/2012 07:59

Update on second labour- still a longish one at 18 hours but nearly a full day shorter than the first!
