40+6, sweep today. Had mild cramping since last Monday. Since sweep cramps were a lot more intense, and at one point coming fairly regularly (but far apart). Now they have dwindled off to nothing. Last labour was very intense from the word go, no denying I was in labour. This time im like, is this the start of labour or just from the sweep....?

Mine started same as my other two really - braxton hicks then erratic contractiond which became more painful.

I never really experienced my second or third labours as more intesnse than the first, and they weren't much shorter either.

Sorry, that's probably not helpful!

Still, a new baby on the way, very exciting! Are you going to be induced this week coming?

LingDiLong · 22/01/2012 20:36

Each of my 3 started differently. The 3rd labour I had loads of braxton hicks every evening for the last couple of weeks. The evening I went into labour felt exactly the same to be honest, but instead of wearing off it turned into regular contractions. Not sure if that's any help but hope you don't have too long to wait!

MidnightHag · 22/01/2012 20:39

Got to 40 weeks BP shot up: induced.Sad v. short labour.

SamsGoldilocks · 22/01/2012 20:39

waters broke as i got back into bed after having a pee at 5.30am. I knew because my waters broke with my first born before any other symptoms appeared. Within an hour i started having contractions and by 8.30 i called the midwifes to tell them that it was beginning to get hard to talk. They sent the midwife over and within quarter of an hour of her arrival my ds2 was in my arms. Total time 4 hours. It was the most intense labour from the minute the midwife got to me - wa fine before but as i say the last bit was immensely quick! Good luck

bluemousemummy · 22/01/2012 20:44

oooh dc3 due on 27th for me, with first 2 I had no braxton hicks or anything, just a show and then very intense labour from the word go. This time I have had cramping for the last couple of weeks off and on. My mw swears by clary sage and reflexology to get contractions going more regularly so might be worth a try if nothing's happening...

naturalbaby · 22/01/2012 20:55

I had 2 days of stop start labour, i got through a lot of clary sage but it just confused things because it did get contractions going but i wasn't in proper labour so it just faded away after a few hours.

it was a planned homebirth - I eventually realised it was getting going around 9am, phoned the mw who did a home visit (2cm), started getting more intense around 11, had a bit of lunch at 12:30, dh put our older 2 kids down for an afternoon nap then it suddenly kicked off. baby arrived at 1:05 as the mw's were parking up outside and dh was panicking that we were on our own.

ballstoit · 22/01/2012 21:21

Had sweep on the Friday, nothing on Saturday, slight niggly pains most of the day on Sunday, waters went at 8 Sunday night and DD2 arrived at 9.45 Smile

If only no's 1 & 2 were as quick and easy!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/01/2012 21:27

Woke up with mild contractions in the middle of the night, 5 minutes apart. All of my labours started that way, I have never experienced pre labour, just woken up in labour.

PreggoEggo · 22/01/2012 21:50

thanks all! i've heard third babies can have lots of false starts so wasnt sure what experience others had had. My other two i just woke up in the night with contractions, no waters breaking. My last DD was less than 2.5 hours and I cant believe how quick some of you have been (starting to panic we might not get the pool filled up in time!). Induction for next Sat, please baby come before then! I measured 2-3cm at my sweep today but mw said you never fully close up after previous babies so Im not sure if that means i've dilated to that or if thats just the way things are. I guess time will tell!

Oooh, how exciting!

Are you having a home birth then? Have you got people on standby for your DC?

Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl??

So nosey! I'm sorry, I just love new baby stories.

Ladyemem · 22/01/2012 22:12

was induced 1 week late for 3rd baby (i have 4) must say it was the longest labour of them all yet he was the smallest baby

5babyangels · 22/01/2012 22:29

my 3rd was 10 days late! not induced as i refused to cooperate. my theory was that the other 2 had come when ready and he would too. I really didn't want to be poked and prodded. Hosp agreed they would wait until +14 as long as they could do a traace aily which we both agreed on. however day 10 I woke up and he must have known he had to get a wriggle on and contractions started as soon as i woke. He was born by lunchtime in his bag of waters.....now 8 he is still very laid back. Remember on number 3 youre a pro, just chill whle you can....not long now!

Theeverexpandingrodders · 22/01/2012 22:33

10 Days late induced had a few hours of pessary pains examined at 5.50am not in established labour put in bath baby arrived at 6.29am while I was on my own

neolara · 22/01/2012 22:38

Head a very loud POP while lying in bed, followed by waters seeping out.. Started shaking uncontrollably. I had about 2 contractions 5 mins apart then a 20 min contraction with a few seconds off in at various points. Baby born 30 mins after POP. Delivered by my dh in kitchen.

Good luck!

PreggoEggo · 23/01/2012 10:23

bloody hell these are quick labours....!!!! eeeeeeek!!! my plug went this morning in the shower but i've read that means nothing really (lost it during established labour with other two). Am feeling really grumpy today and just want to be left alone (not easy with 3.5yrold and 22 month old glued to me). Maybe the walk to preschool will get things going.... though I am doubtful.

Sweep at 40+6, started getting twinges. I made sure I was upright and active as much as possible as I'd had twinges like it before and they died down when I sat down for a while.

They were every 10 minutes apart but not really painful. DH and I went for a walk and they moved to 8 minutes apart but still not overly painful. When we got back I decided to try another old wives tale Blush As soon as we finished they moved to 3 minutes apart and started to properly hurt. DD2 was born 5 hours later Grin

NightLark · 23/01/2012 10:32

Grumpy may indicate something...

I was a week over with DC3 (DC2 had been a week early), so had been symptom spotting for ages. On the day she was born I just KNEW . Got niggly pains around lunchtime, called mw mid afternoon and she popped in then left again, 2 mins later the pains got intense, second MW arrived around teatime, we chatted, watched telly etc while I went 'ow' a lot. DC 1&2 came home 6.30 pm and were hustled off to bed by DH very fast, he came back down about 8pm when they were asleep, DC3 was with us by 9pm.

First stage of labour was about 6 hours, second stage 2 mins. Would have been less if she hadn't got stuck.

Intense...

FaithHopeAndKevin · 23/01/2012 11:15

Grumpy and feeling like you've really had enough and you want the other kids out of the way might be something.

I reckon things will kick off once they are in bed tonight. I predict a 1am arrival Grin

doradoo · 23/01/2012 11:28

On and off BH for a couple of days. Then 'false labour' got to 4cm and nothing.

Then MWs left to change etc - planned HB and they'd come out the night before and stayed in my spare room (not in UK) - then one mega contraction once they'd gone - got in bath to relax - 45mins later baby deliverd by DH on bathroom floor....

MWs made it back about 20mins after she arrived.

4kidsnobump · 23/01/2012 19:41

I had contractions on and off from about 33 weeks with no. 3, and there were a couple of times I definately thought 'this is it!' (and it wasn't it!)

However things got going at 39 weeks....contractions from tea time. Decided to go to the hospital at about 12, was about 1am by the time they decided to check, was told - only 3cm so you can go home if you want. But by that point I was so fed up being pregnant, there was no way I was going home without a baby! Spent the next couple of hours stood up/ sat on ball and hey presto, baby arrived at 3:34am. Took everyone by surprise, especially the midwife who didn't have any of her stuff organised!

Hopefully things will start for you soon. I found it so difficult at the end of the pregnancy having to look after 2 little ones when you feel so tired. Everyone always warned me about these awkward 3rd babies!

EdlessAllenPoe · 23/01/2012 19:45

went to bed having occasional CTX. Woke up contracting. called MW, baby born three hours later...

it was 40+10..

maxbear · 23/01/2012 20:37

I had two nights of regular uncomfy contractions but nothing in the day. On the third day (in the evening) I engaged in some ahem 'natural induction' Wink, an hour or so afterwards contractions started properly, I called my midwife (a friend who had delivered the other two) at 3am thinking baby would be here before the school run and wham bam 8 hours later he arrived. It was not bad though, longer than my other two but not too intense like some shorter labours can be.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 23/01/2012 21:29

All kicked off yet?

hackneyzoo · 23/01/2012 21:56

DC3 was born at 40+14 and I had a good five days of contractions (mild ones) starting and stopping, as well as about three sweeps to try and start things off. I was planning a HB as I had had before, but ended up going in to be induced. By the time they got round to examining me I was 4/5 cm and DC3 was born in about three hours. It was a really smooth labour, I think the easiest of the three.
Good luck, hope you are in labour by now.

PreggoEggo · 24/01/2012 16:58

Nope not in labour! But thanks for sharing the stories! I have had no more twinges at all, nothing. Am tired as I cant sleep thinking about it loads! My DH and I originally calculated this thursday as our due date, the 12 week scan moved us forward 10 days so am thinking maybe we were right! Hope baby isnt 'late' from our due date. I cant get much bigger so baby's going to have to come out soon!! Went for walk to pick DD1 from preschool, and drove on a very bumpy road (ouch!), having a thai green curry, i know it isnt spicy but i hate spicy food! Hopefully something will do the trick!
