Related to the other thread about inductions/drips, can it be taken out once you are in established labour?

Just wondering.

If your labour kicks off and you are contracting away to beat the band, why can't it come out? I am thinking of post-dates labours here like mine where my waters had gone of own accord 24 hours previously. Surely once started off it should have been okay to stop it?
