Getting frustrated with stop-start pre/early labour!

I'm 40+3 today, so I know I'm hardly late by anyone's standards, but this is really starting to frustrate me...

Since the weekend (38+4) I have had period pain and backache and that sense that 'something' was just 'different' about all the little twinges and niggles. Saw the mw at 38+6 and everything was fine. That night I had a few mild contractions, I just went back to sleep as they weren't that strong and come the morning they'd stopped. Yesterday (40+2) the mw did a sweep and found that I was fully effaced and 2cm dilated so she was hopeful labour would start soon.

But now its the morning, and while I still have backache and period paid (seriously, I want to get a hot water bottle on my abdomen for the cramps!) that are really starting to frustrate me as I feel constantly uncomfortable, and I've had some mild and irregular contractions.... nothing.

I know sweeps don't always work, but how long have other people gone with this 'period' pain and nothing happening?!

It sounds like things are beginning to kick off. Could still take a while though. On my labour thread I was much like yourself, getting impatient etc and someone said 'the longer it takes go

mmmmmchocolate · 20/01/2012 12:22

Sorry damn iPhone!!
*going in and out of labour the quicker it will happen when you do go into labour' and she was right!

Try not to worry it won't be long now!! Good luck!!

I had 3 days of on - off labour and thought it was braxton hicks! I was admitted into hospital because of my bp and found I was 3cm dilated. That was a surprise.

Maybe mmmm is right: my established labour started at 1am and I was pushing 5 hours later - pretty quick for a first labour, I think? shame I couldn't finish what I started, but hey ho

Try not to worry too much about - and good luck! Baby will be here very soon. :)

I have been having this too - started on Thursday afternoon, with cramps and backache, nausea, BHs and serious 'pressure' down there. Then it stopped on Tuesday (I was super-stressed that day and Wednesday) and started again today. When it first started I too thought it was going to be the start of something...now I'm just confused!

My stop star labour began on the Friday night and aside from a few hours off between times it carried on to Monday 6am. Nothing worse Han severe period pains. Too much to sleep not enough to go in to hospital.
Real labour, unmistakable, started 12.30pm Monday, hospital at 3.30 and I delivered at 6pm.
So yes the prelabour was tiring and frustrating but I really think it did a lot of the work to make full labour short and straightforward.
Really hope it does that for you too. Best of luck!

I feel like I am having the world's slowest labour - have only just had a show in the early hours of this morning! But that did follow of a night of real period paid, so am desperately crossing my fingers that everyone is right and it means my body is doing a hell of a lot of work this way to get ready for labour...

Period type pain, back ache, BH, false contractions that get to 10 mins apart over a few hours then stop, diarrhea tmi sorry, had a show, MW told me last thursday 'oh i'd think you'd be back with in 24 - 48 hours in labour 10 days later still no further on :( OH and shooting pains down my bum and fanjo everytime i move because babys fully engaged and ready to go clearly bloody not

BellaCB · 21/01/2012 16:58

Christ! Worryingly that's what my mw keeps saying to me... Sad When are you being induced?

I've been told from 3 diff midwifes looks like it's happening and nothing but i've had a lot of family stress this week so the last one did say the stress might be delaying things. Was planning to bag ask to be induced on wed but DP broke his fingers on his right hand yesterday and is in a lot of pain and trying to get used to using his left so thinking it's best to leave induction as long as possible to try and get him back on form or i'll have a baby and a new born to look after hehe

I hope you go soon this is no fun x

Hope you go naturally soon too, kiki, that sounds like a lot of not-fun at the moment but hopefully little one will turn up very soon and make everything better

nappy - did you hang around for days then? And did you have a relatively ok labour when it started?
