New birthing centre- Edinburgh Royal

Hi

I am due to give birth next week and am hoping to go to the new midwife led centre at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Has anyone else given birth there?? if so, would you recommend it? it is a 45 minute drive from where I live, so want to make sure it is worth the extra travel time! If not, I would be going to St Johns.

Thanks

Not to sound totally negative BUT...go to St John's. My experience was pre-birthing centre, mind you. Am going to St John's this time despite RIE being 20 mins away and St John's 40. The community MW advised me to go to St John's this time.

thanks. I just really liked the idea of mid wife led care, and the face that it is all completely new, and you have your own room through out and a bed for your partner!

I couldn't use it as my BP was (very slightly) raised and they have v strict criteria for who can use it. A friend gave birth there the week after I had DD2 and said it was great. I would have loved to use it, facilities look fantastic and you could have an instant transfer if there were any problems.

That is what I was thinking- if the doctors were not near by I wouldn't have entertained it. I was given the go ahead last week, so will now just have to wait to see if I go into labour myself! If not, or it seems like I won't manage the journey it will be St Johns!
