We have just moved to the area and I have just foundout I am pregnant (DC2) !!!

I am booked in for a booking appt in the next few weeks so hopefully will get some info then but does anyone know about the birthing facilities nrby?

I know there is Treliske hospital - does it have a midwife led unit? (I have my son in the Alexandra Birthing Centre in Watford so would like to go to a midwife unit again if possible).

Are there any other options nearby and what are people's opinions on them?

Thanks!

Hi pushit, I had ds at treliske, not a midwife led unit but my experience there was good.

There are midwife led units at Helston and St Austell, no experience of these though. Only reason I chose treliske was because it was the closest to home, otherwise I would have considered one of the mlus.

mine were all treliske.
one of the ones betty said about begins with p but cant think?Grin has a good reputation.mine were all cs so didnt have the option.
will try to think of name of it....p,p,p

I had DD at Treliske - the labour care was fantastic, the post-natal care dire.

The MLUs at St Austell and Helston are both within easy blue-lighting distance if there are any probs, but I know that Helston only holds one labouring woman at a time so if you are booked in there you have to pray that no one goes into labour at the same time as you!

Also the midwife led unit at Helston has no facilities for overnight stay so as soon as baby is born you are sent home! But they do have a birthing pool where Treliske don't.

I have had both of mine at Treliske and never had any problems, am there again on tues for my c section!
