i gave birth 3w 2d ago (fully natural vaginal birth) to a 5 week premi girl, i had a easy birth no rips or tears. Doctor told me that i could go back to normal ways eg sex and so on when ever i felt comfortable to do so.. After a few days i had no pain what so ever and a week and 4 days after birth i stopped bleeding i left it for a few days and the bleeding didnt start so to say in as few words as possible at the 2 week 2 day mark me n my partner had sex. The next day my bleeding started heavy and dark red and since then ive been bleeding on n off .... Is this normal and also is it possible for me to fall pregnant already i am full on breastfeeding?

As far as I know the chances of getting pregnant within 1 month of giving birth are very slim and almost non existent if you're breastfeeding.
On another note, I wish my forthcoming labour, delivery and recovery is as straight forward as yours!! Smile

Thanks,, the fact that she was only 2.3kgs 5 weeks premi made it a lil easyer with labour, althou the next few weeks where scary for DD with her being quite jaundice but we pulled throu :)

Can I just say you can fall pregnant, intact you are actually more fertile after you give birth!

I had my babies 3 weeks ago and my bleeding has been the same, it stopped then really red and heavy, now stopped I expect it will start agAin as it did with previous pregnancies

kayjaybabe · 10/01/2012 23:03

Ohkay thanks for that.. Yes the bleeding pattern is really quite weird!!!

Stop-start bleeding is quite normal, especially as you only gave birth 3 weeks ago.

If you are breastfeeding for EVERY feed, and feeding at least every 3 hours then you are unlikely to get pregnant, however it is possible, and you will of course ovulate before your period arrives.

Im breastfeeding every feed and 3 hours except at night we do 4 hour feeds... I feel silly asking but is it still possible to fall pregnant if im bleeding so heavy? (im not pregnant or possibly going to fall pregnant anytime soon im just a bit paranoid lol)

I would imagine so. There have been a few threads about 'irish twins' recently on here - siblings born about 10 months apart who end up in the same school year. The bleeding is nothing to do with ovulation or periods, this will be from where the placenta was attached to the uterus - its basically a large wound that is healing.

I know several women that were full on bfing and still got pg! If you don't want a nine/ten month gap or another baby so soon, take precautions!

Oh thats scary!! Im deffently not ready for another baby yet! Does anyone know how long after birth you have to wait before getting the mirena (plastic T shaped contraceptive inserted into ur uterus also known as the Intrauterine device or IUD)

I am one :) my baby just turned 1 today and I had twins 3 weeks ago!!
So I had 3 babies in 2011

Oooh! xkatyx wow! congratulations! (I think Wink)

I think you can have the Mirena quite quickly after giving birth kay, I had mine fitted about 10 weeks after Dd was born, but could've had it before then apparently. I didn't get on with it at all though.

Oh really thanks!! Ill ask them when i go in tomorrow and see if i can get it soon :) x
