Anyone have difficulty getting an epidural tube inserted?

I had an epidural during my last labour, but it took two anaesthetists an hour and a quarter to do it. My spine is unusually solid, and they couldn't find a big enough space between my vertebrae (it's a family trait, my dad and my sister are the same). They kept warning me that they may not be able to insert it at all.

I'd like to have the option of an epi next time, but I'm worried that it'll be impossible.

Has anyone any experience of this situation?

You may wish to make sure that it is documented in your notes that they had difficulty inserting an epidural.

It's there in my notes from last time. I got to meet the anaesthetist last time beforehand to discuss my options, so I can make sure he reads back over what he wrote, I suppose. Hopefully he'll have drawn a map!
