Hi
I'm currently 31 weeks with my first baby and have started thinking about giving birth! It makes perfect sense to me to want to give birth sitting up (toliet style!!) and was wondering if anyone knew if hospitals have birthing stools available??? Will ask my midwife at my next appointment but (as you can see) I'm awake at daft o'clock and was wondering...

In the midwife led unit at Newham hospital they did.

Thanks Nailak - I'll be at Sunderland if that makes any difference?

I have no clue, but I found it useful.

I used a birthing stool (unplanned) (oh and unsuccessful due to far head of ds). Not on sunderland tho so probably mo help to you whatsoever!

Thanks ladies - just wondered if they were 'standard' in most hospitals really! :)

They did in Gateshead at the QE so getting geographically closer! I'd call the hospital and ask

If the hospital doesn't have them, perhaps you can hire one??

Deffo have several in the hospital I'm going to in Manchester

Blush is it telling that I thought you were talking about pooping while
In labour? Sorry OP, I shall go now :)

They didn't have them in the hospital I gave birth in in Northern Ireland :( or if they did no one mentioned them to me.

I quite like the idea for when I give birth again (DC2 due in August 2012).
