Worried 2nd timer

Hi my first DC was born 2 1/2 years ago, he was induced due to pre-eclampsia, I had syntocinon and an epidural slept through the night when contractions happened and was woken by midwife given an hour to acclimatise then pushed for 10 mins and got my lovely little boy.

However it means I am really worried this time because I have never really given birth with all the proper pains and feelings. I know that not every birth is the same so as you can understand I am apprehensive. I have read that 2nd births are quicker so I am very afraid any advice welcomed.

Well my second birth wasn't quicker but the first did end in a c-section. If your body was being stimulated by syntocin, it might not be as efficent as a 'normal' 2nd timer. Gas and air (imo) is wonderful stuff but make sure the tank is turned on!
And if it gets too much, there is nothing stopping you from having an epidural this time either. Good luck!

Hi heartmoonshadow - I had a similar first labour to yours. It was a long labour, with epi, syto etc. I honestly didnt feel a thing (once I had the epidural)- even contractions. So, when I had number two I was really concerned how I would cope etc as had not laboured. Well I honestly found it quite easy - to the extent that DC2 was born on the bathroom floor 2 hours after I got out of bed! I had gas and air for the last 10 mins when the paramedics got here.
Ditto what fridakahlo said - dont forget there is pain relief available to use.

Take care, wishing you all the best.
