How long did it take after giving birth for you to stop looking pregnant?

I gave birth yesterday to our first DD, but still look about 6 months pregnant which I expected but I'm just wondering how long it will be until I look a bit less pregnant? I don't mean how long will it take to lose all my baby weight or look like Liz Hurley - just wondering roughly how long it will take for my belly to look slightly less pregnant than it does at the mo.

Can be up to a few weeks.

Massive congratulations on the birth of your DD :)

fireandthefury · 30/12/2011 21:03

Ooh yes, remember that gutted feeling quite well.

I think it was about 1 weekwith DD1 and more like two weeks with DD2. It did happen though!

Huge congratulations on your new DD!

Pantofino · 30/12/2011 21:03

Well I am up to 7.5 years Blush Grin

Pantofino · 30/12/2011 21:04

Congratulations by the way! Name?

Chubfuddler · 30/12/2011 21:05

Yesterday? No wonder! My first birth (vb) about two weeks, cs with dc2 I was still in maternity clothes after six weeks.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 30/12/2011 21:10

Congratulations! :)

I can heartily recommend being fat in the first place. I looked like my old self the day after I had dd... just a shame 'my old self' looked 6 months pregnant :o

LauraSmurf · 30/12/2011 21:20

2 days! But I will say all through pregnancy I had a very tight bump and good stomach muscles (MW and docs always commented on them -was slightly odd)

Also my baby was in NICU, so I survived on toast and stress and was running up and down 3 flights of stairs multiple times a day. Don't recommend it as a diet, would rather have been pregnant looking.

NotCravingChristmasCake · 30/12/2011 21:39

About 3 - 4 weeks for me. Altho i'm still wearing maternity jeans for pure comfort of elastic waistbands over christmas Xmas Grin. And my DS is only 10 weeks.

Congratulations also.

I'm in awe of you posting this 1 day after, how have you found the time and energy?!! From my understanding it takes a while for the uterus to contract back to it's normal size and then a lot of what you're carrying is also water, which will drop off very rapidly over the next few weeks. Your stomach muscles will also have separated and need to come back together. 9 wks after my DS was born and I've dropped most of the weight but still got a small wobbly belly, which I quite like as reminds me of being pregnant. I think only exercise will shift it really. Congrats on your new baby!

Bizarrely, it was instant, the MW commented on it being like a deflated balloon Xmas Hmm I did lose a lot of weight being pregnant though and I'm not sure it's entirely healthy.

AlpinePony · 31/12/2011 04:48

A day or two, but then I had good tummy muscles back then, he was premature (36 weeks) and I'd seen people the week previous who hadn't known I was pregnant! Not saying I bounced back to a size 6 - but I went back to "normal for me" within 48 hours. Then put on about 2 stone due to beta-blockers/cake. :(

Snowgirl1 · 01/01/2012 19:04

Thanks for your replies everyone. DD's name is Jennifer. Even at 3 days I think the "pregnancy look" is deflating a bit and I was relieved to hear that it was a few weeks for most of you. I'd heard people say previously that it takes 9 months to grow a baby and 9 months to get your figure back - I was just concerned that it was going to be 9 months to get rid of the 6 month pregnancy look.

Congratulations. It all depends. If this was your first, then you will likely go back to your regular looking body sooner than later. After my first, it was pretty quick. I did keet 10 lbs on. After my second birth it took a while longer and I kept an additional 10 lbs on. My 3rd boy was born 5 and a half months ago and I still look 5 or 6 months pregnant. I haven't been able to shed any weight in a while. With all 3 of my pregnancies, I gained between 60 and 80 lbs. I am still up 30 lbs from before this pregnancy. I have big babies and it is expected to take longer since there is more stretching involved with larger babies. My first was 8 lbs 14.5 oz, my second was 9 lbs 6 oz, my third was 10 lbs 1 oz. Pilates is a good exercise to get back. I did it religously after my first child.

TheCokeMachine · 02/01/2012 20:50

My baby is 10 weeks old, I stopped looking pregnant after 5 weeks - I still look fat but my belly is just chubby now though - as I gained four stone hehe - and I enjoyed every damn calorie of it. After 20 years of keeping my weight down I ate anything and everything that I fancied.

I have two stone still to loose (the first two stone just came off easy after the birth), the diet starts tomorrow. I'm 38 years old so I don't think I'd ping back as quick as some younger mums (or that is my excuse anyway).

I was horrifed after I gave birth, I didn't expect to be back in a size 8, but hell I didn't realise that I'd still look at least 6 months pregnant. I'm now in a 12 and expect to be back in my size 8 skinnies by Easter.

Chynah · 02/01/2012 22:29

about 2 weeks although tummy never quite how it was before!

SoFreshNSoClean · 02/01/2012 22:31

Nearly a year both times - I had c-sections and had lots of swelling.

However, I am slimmer than most of my friends who slimmed right down straight away, now.

CointreauVersial · 02/01/2012 22:33

A lot of it is retained fluid, so you will deflate fairly quickly over the first few days. I had my pre-preg jeans on within a couple of days, but I was lucky.

Congrats, by the way!

CuppaTeaJanice · 03/01/2012 08:37

A few days to lose the wobbly beer gut look, although 2 months later my stomach isn't completely back to normal and still bloats up easily after meals. And the brown linea nigra line is still there.

Arse, however, seems to take the best part of a year to shrink back to normal size!!! Grin

PosieParker · 03/01/2012 08:38

Ages, but then I had c sections!!
