My baby is 4 weeks old and I'm still bleeding. Not heavily but enough. This is my 3rd baby and the lochia was well finished for the other 2 by 2 weeks in. This time I had a physiological 3rd stage but the other 2 times I had a managed 3rd stage. Do you think this is the reason?

I'm feeling a bit lousy, knackered due to Christmas and 3 kids, so much left to do and today I had some red patches on my breast and feel a bit fluey so I've had a hot bath and been massaging. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself. So go on yell me to pull myself together and its normal.

I have three and my bleeding has been 5-6 weeks with each of them. 2 physiological third stages and one medically managed. It does get a bit wearing, doesn't it?

If you're doing a lot then the bleeding seems to go up again in my experience. Sorry to hear you're feeling rough Sad. Do you think you could have a blocked duct or mastitis starting? Feed feed feed if so!

FingandJeffing · 22/12/2011 00:27

Thanks for that. I'm just a bit fed up of the leaking breasts, the bleeding and I have to do the Christmas food shop yet!

Yes I think I have the beginnings of a blocked duct/mastitis but after my hot bath and massage I'm feeling a bit better. I'm feeding as much as possible but he seems to know when enough is enough (damn it !). Still onwards and upwards etc.

Sad Yes, I know what you mean, it can just feel like every intimate bit of you is leaking. You have a lot on at the moment, so do go easy on yourself. Mastitis is also more common when you're run down too. Is there anyone who could help with the shopping?

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better now and I hope you get some sleep tonight at some point.

I bleed on average for 10 weeks. it doesn't stop completely til 12 weeks generally. that's normal for me. I hope you feel better soon. I hated it going on for so long, and could never understand women complaining about still bleeding at 2 weeks - I think they're so lucky!

dontlaugh · 22/12/2011 23:12

Sorry, that sounded like I meant you were complaining, I didn't mean that! Just that 2 weeks seems like a short time to me.

FingandJeffing · 23/12/2011 19:37

No worries, thanks for all the helpful posts. I'm feeling much better and less of a wreak today. I seem to have prevented mastitis taking hold so very pleased about that. Still bleeding but reassured to find out its fairly normal :)

I haven't shopped yet but I just need a turkey and some sprouts etc. I had a quiet day and feel a bit better. Thanks all.

Just popping on to thread for a mini-hijack as I have got the same issue and didn't want to start a new thread for basically the same thing!

I had a c-section and didn't bleed much afterwards apart from the first couple of days when it was very clotty. It quickly turned from red to pink and then brown, and so little that I only was using tiny thin pads to protect my pants. I'm on day 9 and have been relatively active today and have bright red blood and loads of it! It's not like period blood but blood blood so it's quite scary. Sorry if this is totally obvious and normal, but I've got myself in a tizz about it so if anyone's around with reassuring words I'd appreciate it v much Smile

MoTeaVate · 23/12/2011 23:05

I'm not a medic. In my personal experience bleeding does sometimes increase and brighten if you suddenly up your activity levels. However, I've never had a c section so no idea whether it might mean something else after that. Have you given your MW or delivery unit a ring to check with them? They should be able to reassure you whether it's to be expected.

HugosGoatee · 23/12/2011 23:11

Thanks MoTea. I'll give them a ring tomorrow if it doesn't lighten up at all.

Or if it gets any worse overnight please Wink. Hope you get some sleep and congrats on your new baby x

I'm still bleeding and I'm 11 weeks pp! It's light though, and could be more related to my depo injection I had 3 and a half weeks ago rather than the birth, though I was still bleeding when I had it done! I don't know if it will ever stop but then I've got an US booked on the 2nd Jan to check my uterus out! I think 4 weeks is too early for it to have stopped completely! And walking/doing things does make it worse!!
