40wks + 10 - feel like im lacking support

Hi ladies

Needing advice as am now 40wk + 10 have found it impossible to get MW appts at short notice so couldn't see any1 at 40 wks, saw MW on Friday for first sweep and she told me to book in for a 2nd sweep today and called the hospital to book induction. She left my details with them and they were supposed to call me back to confirm inducement from Wednesday and haven't heard from them, I tried to call earlier left a voicemail not heard back from them so have called again this afternoon ......straight to voicemail I didn't bother leaving another 1.

I couldn't get an appt for a sweep today either so am now 40+ 10 having had only 1 sweep and don't have a date to be induced is this normal? How forceful should I be with the hospital if I ever hear from them? This uncertainty is as stressful as the lack of labour I really feel adrift by the NHS and like they don't care by this stage I thought they would be all over me to make sure everything was ok??

Any information/advice as to what I should do would be appreciated.

Thanks

figgy i commented on another thread but didn't know how little support you were actually getting, no wonder you are so fed up!

Are you able to contact your own midwife again or are they not responding either? With only 4 days to go i think you are entitled to get a bit forceful about it now. I would try another tactic with the hospital, get the main switchboard number, ask to be put through to the labour ward or triage, then play it a bit helpless and explain your anxiety to the first human voice you get. I'd also be telling them just how much it's distressing you because that is definitely not going to help you go into labour!

Hope you manage to get a plan together, and that you go into labour v v soon...

Hi grohlsgirl

I am going to have to be more forceful aren't I, I currently have no mw appts booked as the first they could do was 40+14 by which time I should have been induced really am shocked by lack of urgency just as well he's still a very active baby and moves a lot otherwise would be even more stressed out.

Figgy, I am also 40+10 today and my consultant said to me last week she would induce me this Wednesday. I didn't hear anything from anyone so I rang the labour ward directly and sure enough I am booked in for Wednesday morning. Don't panic, ring them and cut out the middle man. My midwives never answer the phone and seem to only return calls when you have left at least 2 messages!

Good luck and here's hoping we both get in on Wednesday

Hi figgy, I am 40 + 6 and had a sweep this morning which was a big, fat failure due to a unripe cervix that the midwife couldn't reach. She phoned through to the hospital to get me on induction list and said I could be called between term plus 10 and term plus 14. I'm unhappy about going in over Xmas (no care for my dog, possible staff shortages that day etc..) so I spoke to the supervisor of midwives at the hospital who was really helpful. So I would suggest phoning the hospital and ask for the supervisor of midwives to push your case forward. I've also requested an appointment with the consultant tomorrow to discuss options. Hope you get some action soon!

I know how frustrated you all must be (DD1 was 12 days over) but anything up to 14 days over is 'normal'. I didn't have any sweeps and DD came eventually all by herself. From what i hear of most inductions the process is not perfect, doesn't always work and can be quite stressful. Ideally so long as your DCs are still active it is just a waiting game.

I definately think your MWs should be more supportive tho and give you a clear schedule of what they plan to do and when.

Good luck and hope your DCs come soon, the waiting is awful x

Just turn up at the labour ward and say you are having contraction pains. Puff and pant a lot. Screech when they examine you. If they ask you to leave, then cry, retch, and collapse onto the floor, moaning. Make a fuss.

Am so Angry on your behalf. You should NOT be hanging around at home this far on in PG!
