Third baby births

Hi!
Please tell me how your third births went compared to your other two, eg how long they were? easier/harder?
DD1 22 hours
DD2 less than 2.5 hours so quite a bit different, making me question baby 3?

I know there's no way to predict but am just interested to see if there's a trend of thirds being any quicker/slower/unpredictable :)

Have read a couple of mum s having 1 hour labours!!! Yes please!

hardest, sorry to say.
But 4th wasn't too bad .

lesstalkmoreaction · 19/11/2011 17:36

1st 6 hours
2nd 2 hrs
my 3rd was born in an ambulance on the side of a road as he was 1hr 50 mins from first twinge.
My 4th was 50 mins from the first twinge and born at home.
so yes mine all got quicker.

PreggoEggo · 19/11/2011 17:37

Will be watching and hopefully adding very soon, hoping for 3 hours .

Louplet · 19/11/2011 20:33

Mine got progressively quicker. Dc3 was less than 2 hours first stage and 3 minutes second stage!

RandomMess · 19/11/2011 20:37

I was induced for all 4 births, the 3rd took almost as long to get going as the first. however once I was in labour it was indeed quicker each time. My official labout for dc was 2 mins...

Karoleann · 19/11/2011 20:39

DC1 - at 42 weeks 8 hours horrible placental abruption!
DC2 - induced at 41 weeks, 6 hours, second stage 40 mins
DC3 - induced at 41 weeks, 6 hours, second stage 40 mins.

No more for me - 3 def enough!

lollystix · 19/11/2011 21:17

Ds1-48 hours emcs
Ds2-7 hours from hindwaters going
Ds3-1 week of prelabour with 4 false starts, sweep and then when it did properly start it was 4 hours
Ds4-about 2 weeks of prelabour but no false starts. 4 hours when properly going

My 3rd labour was apparently typical of 3rds according to my mw- long prelabour and lots of false starts

Eglu · 19/11/2011 21:25

DS1 4hrs
DS2 1hr 45
DD 1hr and quite frankly wouldn't wish such a speed on anyone. Unless you live next door to your hospital or comm mw.

Animol · 19/11/2011 21:46

5 and a half hours
1 hour (but there had been quite a bit going on behind the scenes for quite a while iyswim)
5 and a half hours
and guess what: 5 and a half hours

4madboys · 19/11/2011 21:54

ds1 induced and took over 2 days.

ds2 induced took 7hrs.

ds3 induced not much happened at first, so i went to sleep for a bit, once labour got going it took 3hrs, they say 3rd babies can give you lots of false alarms and bit a bit start/stop with labour but once they get going properly its usually pretty quick.

ds4 induced 1hr.

dd induced 3 hrs but she was back to back and they said she would have shot out if she had been the right way round.

lilmamma · 23/11/2011 10:45

mine were all completely different, and no4 was the worse.

Crawling · 23/11/2011 11:25

1st 24 hours 30 minutes pushing
2nd 12 hours 2 minute pushing
3rd 42 hours 10 minute pushing

But on DC3 contractions were no were near as painfull.

abeautifulbutterfly · 23/11/2011 11:31

Marking my place here - also due DC3 in 8 wks... (Previous labours both more or less 12 hrs, both approx. 8 days after DD)

OT slightly, but in the same vein, how did their birth weights/sizes pan out? My DD1 was large - 4.5 kg. Dr said DD2 would probably be smaller, and he was right - 3.5kg. Where do 3rd babies tend to end up (if there is any rule at all)?

Memoo · 23/11/2011 11:45

1st 14 hours
2nd 6 hours
3rd 12 hours to 7cm then emergency section as dd wasn't getting enough oxygen and had her head stuck bu a funny angle in my pelvis.

flossyfloo · 23/11/2011 12:19

DC1: 44 hours, inc 2 hours of pushing before having to have a ventouse as DD was back to back and would not turn, trying to come out face first.

DC2: 2 hours (possibly less) and pretty much no pushing! This was 24 hrs after my waters had gone though, but labour didn't start til I had a sweep and then it all went pretty past after that.

DC3: 4 hours around abouts. Not sure of exact details as was dealing with other children when labour started, getting them to bed etc so wasn't really taking much notice TBH! Think pushing was only about 10 mins.

Found labour with DC3 a lot easier to deal with, not as painful (until the very end).

chocolatchaud · 23/11/2011 12:28

DC1 - 24 hours on and off with full-on contractions for around 9 hours. Ventouse delivery.

DC2 - 12 hours from first contraction but regular contractions for around 5 hours.

DC3 - contractions on and off for 24 hours again, but only became regular for last 4 hours, and the actual birth was by far the easiest. Definitely my favourite birth and least painful - felt very in control.

Crawling · 23/11/2011 12:46

DS weighed 7 lbs 2oz 10 days early
DD 8 Lbs 2 oz at 10 days over
DD2 7lbs 3oz at 7days over

Crawling · 23/11/2011 12:47

The last post was for ABeautifulButterfly

thisisyesterday · 23/11/2011 12:51

DS1- 18hrs lots of intervention, 9lb 1

DS2- 6 hours, back to back, homebirth, 9lb 5

DS3- 48 minutes, v. intense, homebirth, 9lb 11

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 23/11/2011 14:41

ds1 3.5 weeks early,7hrs from 1st twinge
ds2 2.5 weeks early,3 hrs
dd1 2 weeks late,3 hrs but she was back to back so got stuck or else she would have been out in an hour
ds3 10 days late, ecs at last minute as had a bandls ring & no-one noticed, but he was the different one that caused major hell not my 3rd

mosschops30 · 23/11/2011 14:45

My third was a disaster, sorry

Dd 25 hours vaginal delivery no problems
Ds1 6 hours vaginal delivery no problems
Ds2 12 hours labour, EMCS and further emergency surgey 5 days later Sad

good luck, there is no predicting these things

busyboysmum · 25/11/2011 20:04

1st - 24 hours 30 minutes pushing 6 days late 7lb 14oz
2nd - 12 hours 2 minutes pushing 6 days late 7lb 14oz
3rd - 3 hours 10 minutes pushing 8 days late 8lb 6oz

So for me the third was the easiest Smile

Rikalaily · 26/11/2011 09:38

Sorry to say my 3rd was my hardest by far.

1st - Waters broke at 35 weeks, contractions started an hour later. Time from first contraction, 14 hours, average first birth, was hard but not horrible, had 2 botched epidurals and a spinal headache & blood patch afterwards. Don't know how long I pushed for, it was a while as he got stuck a bit.

2nd - Time from first contraction 9 hours, was an easy labour, she was a shoulder dystocia but it was easily resolved and she had no long term effects. Pushing for a while as she got stuck at the shoulders, was shorter than no.1 though.

3rd - Time from first contraction, 16 hours. Was a very hard labour, was as painful at 4cm as no.2 was at 8cm, got the urge to push way too soon, then the contractions although fierce, stopped dialating me. Ended up on a drip with an epidural for 7 hours at get the last couple of cm's, the midwives said that long on a full drip for the last few cm is unheard of in a 3rd birth. Needed councilling and got PND, the only time I've screamed in pain. Pushing was quick, think I only pushed a few times.

4th - Time from first contraction, 5 hours. The easiest labour ever, most of my contractions were painless, the end ones were only as painful as normal 3-4cm contractions. Only went to get a quick dialation check and left the bags in the car expecting to come home for a few hours... 7 mins after walking through the door dd3 arrived! Totally deserved an easy birth after dd2's, lol. No pushing time was listed as I pushed twice during one contraction and she was born.

No.3 was my heaviest, but she was also my last with my previous partner, no.4 is my first with my dp and was my lightest full term baby.

No.1 - 35 weeks, 4lb 15oz
No.2 - 39+5, 8lb 11oz
No.3 - 40+1, 8lb 15.5oz
No.4 - 40+3, 7lb 9.5oz

galwaygal · 26/11/2011 22:49

no. 1 - 38w, 7lbs8oz, more than 24 hours, horrible painful back labour.
no. 2 - 38w, 7lbs3oz, 2.5 hours, but with on/off pre labour for 4 days beforehand. Actual labour fast and ok, but not great.
no. 3 - 39w, 9lbs, 1.5 hours, but did not know that I was in labour for first half hour!!!!! Ended up being born at home due to being so fast. The best labour and that was without any pain relief being available!!!!!!
(if I was going to have another I would have to plan a homebirth as if the trend continued I would never make it to hospital!)
