Labour - time of day?

Just wondering how many of you went into labour in the middle of the day?

With DD I went into labout first thing in the morning (6am), and my mother went into labour very late at night/early in the morning with her four children. I am wondering, if I haven't gone into labour by the morning each day, does that mean its very unlikely to happen that day so I will just need to wait and hope for the next day?

I asked the MW today and she said statistically more women give birth at night, but she didn't mention when labours started.

2nd from 3.12 to 4.11pm!
Every labour is different. All the best for yours!

DC1 - waters broke 7pm, contractions started in middle of night, confirmed labour next morning around 10am, he arrived at 5.30pm
DC2 - waters broke 1.30pm, labour started 2pm, she was born at 5.30pm

My waters went (slowly) at 6am thursday, induction started 9pm friday evening, 2pm saturday afternoon only 2cm. Was told i would have to wait til 6am sunday before starting another course of gel, proper full on contractions started on their own at 3pm, fully dilated at midnight & baby arrived at 3am sunday. So it can be a long process, but worth it.

1st labour started with period pain one saturday morning when i woke up.
he was born at 7.30am the following morning. easy birth (apart from the end bit obviously, easy but sore)

2nd labour started with similar pain and a "show" in the early hours of a thursday morning, was a long labour (back to back, almost ended up with a c section) and finally pushed baby out by 3.45 on the saturday afternoon with an epidural.

3rd labour (weird one) got induced with silly little tablets twice on a thurs then fri, didnt work, then got sentocin drip (intense) to bring on labour with no epidural (sore) on the fri night about 10pm and she was then born very quickly at 1.30am on the sat morning. the ward was busy - they needed me in and out haha.

all 3 completely different. sometimes with drugs, sometimes not. there was no pattern or consistency with my labours. just be prepared and take it as it comes. enjoy the peace while youve got it!

so there is hope! But it seems not all that much hope and some of your labours started late evening/early morning and ended during the day. I'm still hopeful that it will kick off any minute then...

DS - 4 hour labour, born 1am
DD1 - 5 hour labour born 1am
DD2 - 1 hour labour, born 12.45am

All born on Tuesdays

Yuraye · 19/11/2011 06:28

It was around 13:30/14:00 when I went into labour with DD. Gave birth at 21:00 on the dot. :)

PrettyCandles · 19/11/2011 06:33

All my labours started between midnight and 1am, and all my babies were born between midnight and 3am. But only one of them was born on the day I went into labour.

But that doesn't mean anything for your labour! Smile

Not very relevant, but I worked in a horse racing stud with around 80 pregnant mares and they nearly ALWAYS had their foals at night/early morning! I was induced so I never got to see but I was pretty sure it would kick off at night!

Good luck btw

Thanks for all the responses and times of births, but still wondering about when labour started for you?

Labour started mid morning with DS, had just done the weekly shop and he was born at about 3pm.
With DD, I took DS to school, and l had backache, then contractions, and she was born at 1pm.
Both during the day. I must have been lucky.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/11/2011 16:04

About lunchtime noticed period pains every 20 mins. Every 10 mins by 6pm. Went in at 8.30pm when had three contractions in 10 mins and they hurt. Was 3cms. Established labour 10.20 pm, Ds born 4.02am!
