wasn't quite sure where to put this one, but anyway...

Since having DD 11wks ago I keep getting really sweaty. Even now sat at the computer my back and underarms are wet, (nice visual image for you there ), and if I walk anywhere I need a change of clothes. At night too, I wake up soaking wet.

Is this normal after childbirth?? Anyone else suffer from this?

I do remember being quite sweaty, not sure how long it went on for though. My MW said it was a way of your body ridding itself of the excess fluid from pg, so maybe it didn't go on that long.

mrsdarcy · 03/01/2006 15:20

When I had DS1 I had quite severe night sweats for a months or two, probably getting rid of the fluid retention.

madmarchhare · 03/01/2006 15:22

Ooo yes I was too. I cant remember how long it lasted for, but its quite normal.

elliott · 03/01/2006 15:23

I had really intense and uncomfortable sweating spasms after ds1 - but only in the first weeks I think. But it wouldn't surprise me if it goes on longer for some people.

beansprout · 03/01/2006 15:24

I had the same but also can't remember how long for. Perhaps speak to your GP or HV if you are worried?

biglips · 03/01/2006 15:25

i remembered that i was very sweaty for a couple of months but it had gone back to normal now (baba is 15 mths old)

WigWamBam · 03/01/2006 15:26

My first thought is to get your thyroid checked out - having a baby can often trigger thyroid problems, and one of the symptoms of an over-active thyroid is excessive sweating, particularly at night.

Hi nova - nice to see you here - havent seen you around since the meet up. I definitely got hormonal sweats after having babies for about 3 or 4 months, don't know why, but they did go eventually (ds2 is 4.5 months and I haven't had one for a few weeks). If they're really out of hand, wwb is right, go and get a quick check in case of thyroid probs. Mastitis can make you sweat like a horse too (lovely ) but you'd know if you had that as it hurts like hell!

I was really sweaty for a while after having DD. Seems to have calmed down now (she's 15 weeks)

novadandypowder · 03/01/2006 16:12

hi wilbur [waves], I've been around but mainly on the nov. post natal thread.

thanks everyone, i don't feel like such a freak now! I did have a lot of fluid retention, but I'm at the doctors next week for DD's next set of jabs so will raise it then.

Hi nova, I had this after ds for a few weeks (now 2.6) and now it's here again after dd (8wks). I had ds in the summer and put most of it down to the hot temps, but 8wks on after dd I still get very sweaty at night which I never have before in the winter! I've also lost most of my pg weight, only 6lbs to go (), so not sure if I can still be retaining any fluid, which is what I thought caused the sweating after ds. Maybe it is hormonal like the others have suggested. Are you breastfeeding atm? I am and no af as yet (didn't have one the whole time I fed ds either [10 months-yippee]) so it might have something to do with that, ie the gallons of water I'm consuming to keep the milk flowing, excess needs to go somewhere... a thought. HTH

georginars · 03/01/2006 16:56

I got really sweaty from pregnancy onwards and am still quite bad now (DD is 13 months). it was even worse when I was breastfeeding but since we stopped about 3 months ago, it's starting to calm down a bit (still sweaty though!). The doctor decided it was probably hormones, but now I think of it I was supposed to go for blood tests to check thyroid etc. and I never did it.....

Hi, I got very sweaty after having DS too. It got worse during BF'ing. Quite annoying but apparently very normal.
