Congratulations peter. I bought plain white hats from John Lewis as I found it quite hard to find ones that looked like they'd fit a newborn and I don't know if I'm having a boy or girl.

They are 2 for £4 and are lovely quality but very boring. I bought some iron on motifs of ducks, bears etc from Hobbycraft and jazzed them up. They look lovely now - you can even get names to iron on to help you tell them apart!

That sounds like a lovely idea, haven't done anything crafty like that before but good for you my wife would be in total shock if i did something like that!! I was hoping to buy something really - my wife loves the little animal hats that are about - i found some really nice ones in a local competition but you can't buy them anywhere else which is annoying - I've entered it but not holding my breath - they are lovely though - have you seen anything like this? www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=301143179895697&set=a.300916083251740.80811.208784272464922&type=3&theater preferably less money but not itchy!!
Thanks Pastabee x

Oh, I don't think the link is working?

I have found hats hard to buy on high street, especially if you don't want them as part of a set.

peterjw · 11/11/2011 14:37

Oh sorry !! I'm a bit of a tech phobe - this is the competition link and then on it you can see a link to list of prizes on facebook - the hats are on there - i think you are right have been finding it difficult to find anything suitable on the high street... will keep looking thanks for your help - bit.ly/t5WtBv

Debenhams sell quite a few babygros which come with matching hats

Have you tried looking on Etsy

Or do you know anyone who can knit? Hats are easy-peasy to knit

NotJustKangaskhan · 11/11/2011 15:07

Check out ebay as well as etsy. There are tons of knitters on both, and when I was looking for newborn hats last month there were a lot of newborn hats on ebay that look like animals.

Baby Gap do lovely newborn things and lots of animal type hats at the moment even organic ranges. They can be bought individually too and nice little sizes. Good luck shopping!

thanks for your help will keep you posted!

H&M have some lovely soft velour ear bonnet type hats in at the moment in cream and fawn or there is this lovely site: www.cobwebknits.co.uk/ - a little pricey but all handmade?
