Separated stomach muscles?

Could someone explain to me how I am supposed to tell if my stomach muscles are separated? I'm 8 weeks post c section and want to start exercising again. The health visitor told me I need to make sure my stomach muscles are back together before I do any strenuous excersise, especially abdominal exercises. She suggested I speak to a physio, but I can't get hold of one.
I feel completely fine and can't feel anything out of the ordinary if I press my stomach.

Have you not had your 6 week check at your GP? That's when I was told mine had separated.

I had my 6 week check - my GP checked the baby but not me!

Is your tummy a slightly odd shape and do you have a wide big belly button now? (I speak as someone whose just had her 4th and knows she has really bad separation going on).

For mine I could tell 2 ways - firstly by lying on my back, knees bent and looking down my tummy while starting a sit up my stomach makes a triangle shaped ridge down the centre (this is why they say not to do sit ups because of a risk of hernia between the separated abs).

The second way is first thing in the morning while lying in bed I rub across my stomach with quite a bit of pressure and can feel the dent.

Oh that's really useful thanks - I think my stomach is ok then.
