I want to hear good and bad.

I am currently 36+3 and am being induced at 38+3 due to a big baby. I went into labour naturally with DD at 39 weeks after an attempted sweep. My consultant is attempting a sweep next week (37 weeks) and again 3 days prior to the induction day. Currently 2/5 engaged. Not that any of that has anything to do with how the induction might go!

Was anyone else induced prior to 40 weeks? What was your experience?

Long and boring. I was induced with ds after waters went at 37+2 and no signsof labour at all!

Pessary after pessary after sweep over and over again. Then the syntocin drip and after a couple of hours, there he was.

Much easier than being induced with my 1st at 42 +2. Size of the baby didn't make a difference. My biggest one came naturally and faster than both the others by miles!

I was induced at 39+2 for gestational diabetes (DS was 8lb 7 so glad I didn't go overdue with him!) and for me it was a good experience. I went into labour about an hour after the first pessary and 11 hours later he arrived :)

Good luck with it!

I was induced at 38 weeks. Ended in an emcs I'm afraid.

Really hoping its quick, the day of induction is 11.11.11--how cool would it be for baby to be born that day?

I went in to be induced on the 11.11 (but 09) but no baby until the 13th! first day nothing happened, early on the 12th I was told I would be taken to have water broken but that didn't happen until 11pm. 5am on the 13th he was born.

When I went in I was determined he wouldn't be born on Friday 13th, by the end of things I was determined he would be!!

SausageSmuggler · 28/10/2011 21:51

Oh I meant to say he arrived naturally with the help of an epidural but no intervention.

banana87 · 28/10/2011 22:00

I know, I'm not holding out any hope that she will actually come that day....would actually be better if she came naturally earlier! I am scared to death of being induced after forceps last time (and it wasn't an induction!) :(

I was induced last Saturday at 38 weeks, gave me a sweep first as was having mild contractons, this didnt work.

They then decided to give me a pessary, within 20 minutes was having contractions, then it went a little too quick cos contractions were 1 min apart and it had to be removed, by then was 4cm dilated and had my waters broke, 30 mins later my baby came!

Result!!

4kidsnobump · 29/10/2011 18:20

I was induced with my 1st at 38 weeks. Complete nightmare - took 3 days and ended in forceps anyway which was flipping painful!

Have had 2 natural births inbetween, then was induced for DC4, again at 38 weeks, and like you I was apprehensive, mainly due to no.1's birth. Couldn't have gone more differently (as in better!) Induction started at 6am with pessary. Nothing happening for first 6 hours, then suddenly all got going just after lunch and DC4 was born at 6pm same day.

Really wasn't any worse than my middle kids, who I went into labour naturally with. I think it depends how close you are to giving birth naturally.

Good luck anyway, you're right - 11.11.11 would be a cool date of birth!

halecromp · 29/10/2011 18:56

I had severe sickness so asked to be induce. I went to see the consultant who gave me a sweep and was booked in the next day when I was 37 + 5. When I arrived I was given an internal and told I was 3cm dilated and having regular contractions. My waters were broken and 3 1/2 hours later I had my baby. It was all quite straightforward even though some 'well meaning' relatives had warned me that being induced would mean a very painful and long labour. Hope all goes well for you, Good luck x

effingwotnots · 01/11/2011 07:18

Forgot to say, I was in hospital both times for 4 days before anything happened Sad

Savannahrose · 04/11/2011 17:43

I had an induction at 35+2 went into labour at 34+6 ended up with EMCS but everything ok :) xx

doodledee · 04/11/2011 20:25

I was induced at 35+6 for pre-eclampsia. No pessary straight to iv infusion. Contractions kicked in pretty quickly, 3 hours later dd was born naturally, gas and air. No worse or better than first normal full term delivery apart from the infusions , monitors and catheter ( all due to pre eclampsia). Good luck x

banana87 · 04/11/2011 20:31

Thanks for your replies. It's looking like I may get to skip the pessary as I'm dilated already, consultant says he will just go straight for breaking my waters. Fingers crossed the sweep he does Tuesday works though, I'm scared of induction!!!

I was induced at 37 weeks due to baby stopped growing and was small (placenta failed). I was admitted on the Monday and given a dose of the gel stuff on Monday night, nothing happened so they tried again with gel Tuesday morning then again Tuesday night. Still nothing. So wednesday morning they used the stick thingy to break my waters at 9.45am, i immediately went to 2cm then contractions came thick and fast. Walked down to delivery suite and by 11.30am i was begging for morphine, got checked and was 8cm so no time.. Starting pushing 10 mins later and 2 pushes later DD was born at 11.53am :D

WhatSheSaid · 04/11/2011 21:08

It wasn't that early but I was induced at 39+4 with dd1 due to high blood pressure. Given prostin at 8am, nthing happened, given more at 1pm, mild cramps, they decided at 6pm to try again the next day, an hour later I went into proper labour. 11 hrs of labour (had an epidural about 5 hours in), got to 8cm then had em c/s due to foetal distress. It was all absolutely fine - very well managed by the hospital and staff were fantastic during the c/s. No regrets at all about the birth.

cory · 04/11/2011 21:52

I was induced in week 37 and 36 respectively. Went into labour straightaway with the gel on both occasions: dd was born naturally after about 12 hours (TENS and gas only); ds had to be taken out by emc after a couple of hours as his heartbeat went down. Neither birth was very stressful, though I did tear a bit with the first.

debka · 04/11/2011 21:57

I was induced at 39wks due to GD with DD2. 3 days of pessaries then they sent me home after I begged Went back at 40 weeks- 2 pessaries and she was born after 1 hr natural labour! 10.6 and v easy birth with no tears or damage.

BreeVanDerTramp · 06/11/2011 13:06

Induced at 38 weeks DS1 and 42 weeks DS2, 38 weeks much easier 6 hour labour with both, no intervention although DS2 was back to back so more painful. IV infusion with both after pessary and ARM. Good Luck!
