Sweep - cervix closed and posterior ...

Am 41 weeks today with DC2 - had a sweep this morning but cervix closed and posterior. Induction booked for Monday when I'll be 41+5 ...

Just wondering if anyone had had a sweep with similar result but then labour got going anyway?

From reading on here the successful sweeps seem to be those where the lady was a bit dilated/effaced anyway with anterior cervix?

Many thanks everyone!

With DC1 I went to the midwife for a sweep at 41 +4, she said that it didn't look likely that I would be in labour anytime soon, but then labour started later that night! So there is hope, this happened to a friend too. Good luck Smile

I had three unsuccessful sweeps where my cervix was too far back to reach. The fourth one at 41+3 was successful and I went into labour half an hour after. You could ask to have another sweep on Monday rather than full-on induction, and then go in again a couple of days later for either repeat sweep or proper induction if no success?

I had an unsuccessful sweep at 41 weeks exactly. Midwife couldn't even reach my cervix - so she had literally been able to do nothing. Started having irregular contractions the next day, laboured overnight and DD2 was born at 41+2 (first thing in the morning). There is plenty of hope. Try to relax and trust your body to get going in its own time.

Thanks everyone! Secondtimelucky, that is encouraging, maybe I will have a similar story!

I had exactly the same at my 41 week sweep. I got a show the next morning and went into labour that evening!

I had an attempted sweep at 38 weeks, but midwife couldn't manage to do it. Started losing my plug that night and DD born less than a week later :)

I had an identical experience - sweep at 40+7 and everything clamped shut! I went into spontaneous labour at 40+12. keep the faith!
