Quick first labour, same thing 2nd timE?

I had an easy quick (but painful) labour with my dd, but did have a slight pph after but recovered quickly. before i even had her mw's kepts saying i think you're going to have a very efficient labour just by looking at you. :o

I am only 5 weeks with dc#2 but was just wondering if i would have another smooth labour (forgot to add, only had a little G&A) slight tear due to me being a small frame and having a 8lb9baby. (silly drs saying she would be 5lb)

i am storing up my iron to prevent another big blood loss but just wondered if i would have another "smooth" if you like labour?

I had PPH with my first, unfortunately I chose the local birth centre which meant an ambulance dash and some nasty rummaging around (worse than the birh imo) but I was ok.
I had to go to a hospital for my second, good job as I had a PPH again but it was dealt with fairly easily. Birth was much quicker, especially the time pushing.
Third time round I had a midwife visit (before we tried to conceive), a free service where she came to our home with the previous notes. It was the first time we had any detail about the medical side and found out that my uterus didn't contract as it should. Armed with this information and a plan for the birth we went for a third.

Yep, you guessed it, another PPH. But this time I had the drip set up, drugs to hand and everything ready so again it was dealt with quickly.

Contact your midwife to see if there is an explanation for the first or what plans you can put in place in preparation for the next birth

ds1 - 2 hrs
ds2 - 15 mins

DD1 - 7 hours
DD2 - about an hour

DD1 - 4 1/2 hours
DS1 - 4 hours. I was surprised it wasn't much faster.
DD2 - 30 mins (eek!)

I went to a "birth-after thoughts" service, and my midwife said it was because
My iron levels were low ( silly drs for not telling me) and also where I did it all
Natural, the mw said "do you want to do the placenta naturally? And I just said yeah that's fine,
But then my uterus didn't contract quick enough for the speed of the delivery. And I said I feel really
Wierd down there, and she said no you're fine, and I lifted up the sheet and said, "no I'm seriously not I'm
Losing a lot of blood. Then they said about a drip "then I said, No I'm fine! :)" but I then fainted,
Went white as a ghost and went to observation to have an internal to check the placenta hadn't broken in me (where
I was pushing so hard)but it was fine. Then had a quick recovery! I still class it as a great labour :)

I will stock up on iron, and definitely have the jab to help the placenta. But want to do
It all naturally again.

I literally got a backache at 4pm, then about 5 they got intense, then got to hos at 6:25ish, then
Wanted to push (was 5cm) got in the other room not sure what time, and by 8 something I was pushing, and had her at 8:33pm :)

I'm watching this thread with interest as I had dc1 within 4 hours of first twinge. I'm now pg with dc2 and seriously freaking out that its going to be a really fast one!

DC1=3 1/2 hours
DC2=1 3/4 hours
DC3=1/2 hour

That's from first contraction to birth. All gas and air. Second two I was mobile at all times and not on the bed and gave birth squatting/leaning on the bed. First one I was on the bed, could move around a little but had to stay on the bed and was told to get on my back to give birth and I swore never again. I had a slight tear with number one but they didn't stitch it up and was fine with a few grazes with the other two.

same as cat , 4 hours for DS, preg with DC2.....

Its just crazy when you think: quick first labour.... Will I have time this time?????lol
I did live 5mins from the hospital, now I'm about 10/15mins?

I am intruiged. Anybody had a lot longer 2nd labours?

DC1 - 7 hours
DC2 - 2.5 hours

I am watching this one too. First baby was 2.5 hours but it seemed so much quicker and nearly gave birth in car as they sent me home when I first went in.

Am pregnant with number 2...I told my concerns to my midwife that now we have moved and are about 25 min from hospital and thats not considering london traffic. I said both husband and I are scared of not making it there in time and she said 'its not like it will just fly out of you!'

She didn't take me seriously at all, yet some of you are saying you gave birth in 1/2 an hour! What is your plan to get there on time? And will I end up just bringing my child with me??

dd1 - 2 hours
dd2 - 20 hours (far nicer though!)

I used an Independent Midwife and they did make sure I knew what to do if I did have a fast labour again. Advised me on best position to get in and that they would stay on the phone with me if needed as they drove over or I could call 999 if I felt I needed someone there faster.

my plan to get there on time - was not to bother getting there!

Planned homebirth (ok, so I didn't plan for it to be unassisted), everything went to plan.

• Waters went
• thought "shit, 3 weeks early again"
• Pottered for about 5 mins
• called down to husband
• called hospital
• 1st contraction, during which mw called back and I said she should get here quickly, and I realised that while I might have thought that my 3 months of BH's had reminded me what contractions were like - really they had just been a walk in the fucking park.
• 4th contraction (about 13 mins after 1st one) I thought I better check myself out, reached down and delivered my baby's head :)
