Need advice for post birth episiotomy scarey thoughts

Hello to anyone who can advise.
Had DD 5 weeks ago, Vontuse delivery. I have had the nerve tonight to finally touch were the stitches are and found STRING hanging above incision area about an inch long with knot at the end!!!!!. I assumed I had dissolvable stitches & now worried wound is healing over stitches that should have been removed ?(perish the thought & consequences). Now very worried,as it is pulling and tight around area, surely they would had advised in Hostpital if I needed them removed??

melsey - sounds like stitch material that has not been absorbed yet. The dissolving stitches are actually absorbed into the tissue and sometimes lengths of stitch material come away intact. It can take over 42 days for some stitches to be fully absorbed. If it doesn't wipe off then cut it off with a clean pair of scissors. You certainly will not have had stitches that needed to be removed.

I had exactly the same thing both times with stitches, and as Mears says they do go. Be aware that mine felt slightly more sore just before they went (sounds like the same for you). HTH!

Thank you both, was a bit worried last night but feel much more relieved now. Didn't want to ask health visitor as she drives me nuts!!!!
