there are so many threads about private OBs, I'd recommend skimming down a bit or doing a search. Good luck

If Anthony Silverstone hasn't retired yet, he is really lovely. Pat O'Brian delivered my first 16 years ago when he was Senior Reg at UCH and that was a very positive experience as well, even though it didn't at all go to plan. Both do their private work out of the Portland iirc and are very lovely people as well as being fab doctors.

Tubbycatdoll · 02/09/2011 23:10

I had a cesarean at the portland 13 years ago with Dr Eben. I can very highly recommend this lady. She was absolutely fabulous.

Sunshinecurl · 02/09/2011 23:23

I had an ante-natal appt with Chrissie Yu while my consultant was on holiday and she was lovely. I would feel very comfortable with her delivering my baby.

starchildmum · 03/09/2011 13:30

Thank you AgonyBeetle. Yes Pat has an excellent reputation. I would like to meet him even though I would prefer a female consultant. I think he works together with Miss Eben ( I think they share an office at the Portland) which would be great.

Tubbycatdoll. Great to hear that. She apparently really has an excellent reputation! I am German and think it could help in such a situation to have someone who speaks your native tongue. Thank you for this info. Miss Eben will be my first point of reference.

Sunshinecurl. Thank you. Yes, I have heart about Chrissi and just by looking at there profile I could imagine that she is someone I would feel confortable as well. I believe I would need to meet a couple of consultants to make a final decision.

hi i had both my boys at portland. i totally recommend having baby there! i was very well looked after and i was totally rested after staying for a week. my consultant was Ms Claire Mellon and she is just wonderful she did all my antenatal care. I should also mention that when i was pregnant with with my first, i was v v ill and had to be major surgery when 5 months pregnant. i had it at the portland and she was my surgeon. it was a v scary time and she was totally caring and a professional at the same time.
the meals were delicious and healthy - just what i needed to recover. also the nursery is a great help. my baby was bought to me for each feed. i had the choice to keep him with me or if i need or want a rest, the nurses at the nursery took him to the nursery.
anymore questions, i am happy to answer!
good luck in choosing! when are you due?

starchildmum · 12/09/2011 10:02

hi ozmum,

Thank you for your detailed email. That sound quite scary but very reassuring at the same time. I am glad everything went well and you were in good hands.

Where did you have your antenatal care with Clare? At the Portland?
I have visited the Portland recently and really liked their facilities for giving birth.

However I think maybe it's nicer to have the antenatal care in a more personal and cosy environment rather than in a hospital.

Who delivers at the Portland but has a nice private place for the antenatal care (Birth Company,... Chrissie and Dr Gibbs..... WHO ELSE? WHERE?)

I have some experience of Ms Roberts; she is lovely and clearly very knowledgeable but a nightmare to get hold of (her receptionist screens all calls and makes you discuss your medical issues with her first before deciding whether you need to be passed on and in my experience, she gets it wrong!). One of the reasons we pay for private care is because I want and expect to be able to get hold of my doctor when I feel I need to speak to them. I wouldn't use Dr Roberts again.

ozmum23 · 20/09/2011 11:03

star child good luck with ur bding!!

SkaterGrrrrl · 13/10/2011 13:35

Had Mr Leitch, he is superb. Had an incredibly positive birth. Would have him deliver my next child in a heartbeat.

starchildmum · 21/04/2012 12:21

Any other experiences?
