Hi there. I have a 27 weeker who's nearly two. It was tough going but he's ok now. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have but don't want to overwhelm you! Why are you going to deliver early?

There are a few ladies with little ones in SCBU on the premature birth board. Also take a look at the Bliss website and message board, you will find many with experience and great advice there.

I really feel for you and hope all goes well. Ask away if you have questions.

Sounds like a good weight for 27 weeks. 28 weeks and normal weight gives your baby an excellent chance. I always tell people to look around the NICU but I guess you are an old hand.

My DS had problem with breathing and was ventilated for several weeks, but he was really tiny for dates. I know a few 28 weekers who have just had to feed and grow and gone home well before their due date. My main memory of the early days is endless expressing- the Bliss breastfeeding booklet is really helpful with all that stuff. Hopefully your baby will have a smooth journey. Hope you can hang in there a bit longer.

Just wanted to say good luck..my ds was a 26 weeker and weighed 2lb4. I was lucky enough to get antenatal steroids, as I presume you'll have had too by now, which meant he was only ventilated for 24 hrs (cpap for much much longer obviously). It is a tough old time and ds had many ups and downs but is now a healthy 13 mo. Every day your baby stays in is a bonus now and at 27/28 weeks the outlook is excellent. Head on over to bliss, they offer fantastic support in all sorts of ways.
