Compulsive TV 1 born every Minute.

Is it's just me or does anyone think one born every minute is compulsive watching?!! I sob my eyes out with each baby that's born. I still remember my own experience so Very clearly.

my god, i am the same, i am totally addicted to watching it on 4od.

Last year I would watch it half way?, get petrified, tell DH I can't do this and then go and hide. Now I know the pain results in the most beautiful baby :) compelled to watch the end! Glad I am not alone in this. DH calls me sadistic for watching it!!

I cant watch it t all ,I have a child already and I am due in 4 weeks and threaten my DH is he doesnt do the housewok I will tie him to the chair and leave him alone for 5 hours of back to back episodes :o

I love it for my whole adult life i have been horrified by the idea of pregnancy and childbirth gradually calming down about it and this programme is really helping me. I am determined i want an epidural based on the way women on the show behave in labour when they have had one opposed to people with aspirin screaming the hospital down (you wouldnt have a filling without anaesthetic so why would you put your body through labour without the available pain relief).

DH not liking watching it more than me and all he is going to have to do is be there and look after me!!

I've seen one episode and can't bear it. All three births they covered were natural and short labours. Having had an EMCS after a LONG labour that just makes me angry.

I have saved them all up on the digital box. Got my BFP and now watching them with glee and bawling at each birth and blaming hormones! Glad I am not totally alone. x

I watched first series when ds was newborn and I used to get massive milk let downs whenever a baby was born. Got very messy :o

Figgygal the reason i didn't have an epidural, but happily have local for teeth, that the risks are completely different. Just watch how many women on one born are labouring steadily, then have contractions drop off etc once the epi is in. There is less anecdotal/more scientific evidence for this but as we're on the subject of obem i'll use it to illustrate...

I am completely at how different the american version is. The labours that is, though the format is rubbisher also.

btw figgygal reading ina may gaskin's guide to childbirth might reassure you about birth. I found it inspirational. She's a natural birth advocate but reading it won't mean you're not allowed an epidural but it might help you feel more in control.

Absolutely compulsive when I was pregnant - cried my eyes out every episode. Watched it just after DD too, but it got me upset for different reasons (I had an EMCS) so when watching vaginal births I got all emotional, and when watching CS or EMCS I got emotional too and thought "God, that was me".

Now I just can't watch it. Too upsetting I think.

And agree that the American version looks crap - why does that always happen when they remake for american telly??

Same here..failed induction and then a CS with septic wound etc..bad enough to stop at one baby. But OBEM makes me smile and cry because of the simple beauty of seeing mommy meet baby and hold it for the first time. Just that min of wrinkly, purple fingered baby meeting sweaty emotional mama is lovely!

That's why I get emotional, MaMattoo - I didn't get to hold my baby until the recovery room. She was taken to another room for maybe 5-10 minutes, then my husband held her but I found it too sore to turn my head to even look at her properly. I didn't get to hold her until we were out of theatre and what felt like 45 mins later, and even then it was quite hard. Losing those precious first moments is still painful for me.

I had DC1 in February at Princess Anne Hospital where OBEM is filmed. The programme really helped me feel calmer about the birth when I was pregnant, now compulsive viewing to see how many MWs I recognise, although get incredibly emotional thinking 'I was there'.
