Bleeding much worse 5 weeks after birth - anyone had this?

I had a vaginal delivery 5 weeks ago and had practically stopped bleeding about a week ago until yesterday when it started again, now it is like a period and I am back wearing pads. It seems unlikely to be a period as I am breastfeeding round the clock. Has anyone else had this and how long did it last? have contacted midwife who said to go to GP tomorrow if still bleeding, but would like to hear other experiences!

Have you started doing a lot more this week? My bleeding got heavier when I went back to walking/lifting more and sitting on the sofa less!

It happened to me after dd1. I thought it was a period too although I was also breastfeeding. It was just prior to my 6 week check and the nurse said I had probably over done it a bit and to take it easy.

It stopped completely after a day or two.

Did it coincide with any increase in activity?

I have had slightly weird bleeding too (as in your case I am bf too). I bled like a period 10 days after the end of lochia, and then I have bled (albeit very very little) every 10 days since. I assume we are all just different?

Thanks for the speedy responses! Yes I have definitely been doing more and resting less - maybe this is my chance to say I have been overdoing it and spend more time with my feet up rather than chasing my 3-year-old around whilst carrying the baby in a sling :). Was slightly freaked out by it, had to keep reminding myself I'm not pregnant anymore and so it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the baby...

If you are artificially feeding then it probably is a period.

hi after i had my son, i bled for 8 weeks and they were VERY HEAVY, turned out that the rod for contraception in my arm was the cause, its one of the side affects of it, so if you have the rod then that may explain why your bleeding heavy, also if your breast feeding that also makes you bleed a bit heavier and longer. just to let you know, but everyone is diffrent!!
