Lochia or period? Tmi alert...

I am 29 days post partum & ff my baby. Lochia had been almost nothing for last 2wks, very small amount of pale discharge only a penny size amount couple of times a day.

I was discharged by the community MWs yesterday but today have had red bleeding with some period type cramps. With hindsight I have had pmt this week which I put down to general stress as hadn't even considered starting period so soon.

Any advice appreciated as apart from anything else I would like to know if it is ok to use tampons now if it is a period.

It sounds like a period to me but I'm not an expert. Don't know about safety and sorry if this not first baby so maybe you've experienced this (or could be just me ) but I found it was a while before tampons fitted iyswim. But fine now (well will be but had dc3 six days ago!)
