Mucus Plug probably TMI!

Hi
Does mucus plug always have to have blood in it? I'm pretty confident I've been losing mine this morning (I won't go into the detail), but it hasn't had blood in it.

I'm 40+2, and I know it doesn't mean anything, but at this point in my pregnancy what does this mean? Does it mean my cervix is on its way (i.e. thinning and dilating?)

Thanks

Not an expert but IME you can't always see blood even if it's there (very thin strands etc).

When I had my second, I had a show on 40+4 following a sweep Confused and, even knowing I shouldn't, got really excited but she hung on in there another 3 days

should have said, no visible blood in the show

Hello - I asked my midwife about this, It doesn't always have blood. You can see tiny thin strands sometimes, or nothing at all. I've been loosing mine in bits and its like thick gluey snot - I asked the midwife about it thinking i might have an infection!

It means things are getting ready certainly, but the midwife says its doesnt mean anything really - just that you'll be having a baby soon :)

I think it means your cervix is starting to prepare, but i'm only 38 weeks now so cant say it meant anything immininent for me!

My plug went at 38 weeks with dd, separate to the show I had day later. The plug had no blood, the show did. Went into labour five days later, nine days early. Hth

Ah, so I have more gross stuff to come? Lovely!

Always hard to tell what level of info required, but I hadn't realised that the show might continue. I had increasing amounts of show as my labour progressed - wore a pad. But all felt fine and a sign that things were progressing. The plug was a one off event that time, don't remember it with ds and dd2 came away bit by bit. Show night before labour started with ds and I just had a bit of light brown bleeding with dd-but think that was to do with stretch and sweep really. Sorry if tmi, but the continuing show was something I hadn't picked up on with dd.

Thanks ladies - I keep hoping because I'm two days over now that this could be a more imminent sign. I've been having fake contractions and cramps for weeks now so I suppose I'm desperate for something to happen now!

Have a sweep booked for Sunday so I guess I'll have to wait until then to find out if my cervix is actually doing anything! Unless of course labour starts before then.
