Homeopathic treatments during labour

Wondered if anyone had used any Homeopathic treatments during labour? Midwive mentioned to me these may be beneficial (previous labour was quite long, not very strong contractions and i had no urge to push as baby was too high and looking up, ended up with emergency c-section). Anyway, been looking on the web and it is all very confusing.
Would i be best off speaking to a practioner or just going to boots? Help!

Popmum, I took loads of arnica during my second and it was a forceps job with lots of stitches.
I healed up incredibly quickly and I'm convinced the arnica helped. You need the stronger dose, Arnica 200, which you don't normally find in Boots. I'm not sure the other remedies did a lot, but I really had an amazingly speedy recovery from bruising and pain. Hope that helps.

My homeopath recommended the Helios website. They sells specific kits for labour and include a little booklet/symptom sorter to make prescribing really easy (DH is in charge of ours and says he feels pretty confident withhow to use it) HTH

my homeopath said that the helios kit had a lot of stuff in that i didnt need, she had her own kit which i hired, took what i needed and then returned to her,
The book 'The Gentle Birth Method by Dr Gowri Motha' has lots of suggestions for homeopathic remedies, and I also sipped Rescue Remedy (Bach Flower) during my labour.

Just found the list of things i took.... Caulophyllum 200c initially and 8 hourly for strong efficient contractions. Also took arnica 200c 4 hourly from onset of labour.

Sabina 30c to help expel the placenta.

Post natal i took Arnica 30c, Bellis Perennis 30c and Hypericum 30c for 5 days three times a day to reduce pain and swelling.

Also Calendula 30c an hour after the above to help speed the healing of tears or ceasarean (in my case)

Chamomilla 30c twice a day when i was having after pains.

I had to have an emergency section in the end.... BUT everyone was really amazed about how quickly i healed and how little bruising, swelling and discomfort i had, in fact the mw took note of what i had taken to pass the info on to future clients!

Good luck!

wow mrspink I'm impressed - that's really comprehensive! I have copied down your list to reference for when our time comes!

mrspink27 · 23/11/2005 21:27

the book is really good, if you can get a copy... has lots of weird and wonderful ideas, but if you can get past those there are some really great and fantastically useful tips. I'll lend anyone my copy if they want it!

thanks so much - amazing how these things seem so effective, yet underused. Will investigate more.

Slightly different, but for years I suffered with bad back and had it cured in about 3 sessions by an accupucturist - no more drugs!!

Oooh. I had a complete homeopathy kit from Helios in my hospital bag. It was excellent.

Unfortunately it stayed there along with the lipsalve, glucose tablets, cd player, books, hairbands, socks, chocolate, tens machine, flip flops, fybogel etc etc.

I didn't take one single thing out of the bag during labour - before the epidural I was too busy concentrating on the pain and after the epidural I was too busy reading the paper and eating a curry (my ante-natal yoga lot would not have been impressed and neither was my obstetrician when she caught me).

I saved it for next time though! I will def be taking arnica too.

Good luck - I would definitely take some homeopathic medicine with you. Just remember to take it out of the bag!!
