3rd degree tear during home birth? What happened after?

Just out of curiosity has anyone experience a third degree tear after giving birth at home? If so, what happened after? Did the midwife stitch you up at home or did you need to go to hospital straight away? Did baby go with you or stay at home?
My EDD is today, due with DC3 and have 3 lots of scar tissue from one tear and one episiotomy that had to be repeated. Midwife wasn't much help when I said I was worried about tearing this time round aswell.

i think if you had a third degree tear you would have to tgo to hospital surely? it's a theatre jobby isn't it, rather htan a few stitches by the midwife

baby is generally kept with you

I had a hb with dd and unfortunately sustained a third degree tear. I was transferred into hospital very shortly after the birth via ambulance with dd, dh and midwives followed in their own cars.
I was assessed by the obs surgeon then taken to theatre for a repair under spinal, dh was with dd during this time. I had to stay in overnight due to needing IV antibiotics.

It wasn't ideal but it may not even happen to you, you must be fairly low risk to be going ahead with a hb. I loved my experience, despite how it ended up, good luck! :)

Im planning a home birth too and am under the impression that if i have 3rd degree tear me and baby will be taken to hospital for it.

I had a HB with DD1 and had a 2nd degree tear - but it wouldn't stop bleeding slowly, but enough to start to cause a problem. I transferred in, more for the blood loss than the tear, with DD and one of our (Independent) MW's, and DH followed by car. I was stitched up by an experienced SHO in a delivery room (in stirrups with a local anesthetic) and then had a good sleep, with DD in a cot beside me. We went home later that day.

If you do have a bad tear then it is very unlikely to be a blue light job, and you will almost certainly be kept with your new baby (they'd need a good reason to remove them rather than a good reason to bring them).

fingers crossed all goes smoothly and this discussion is irrelevant :)

Would you believe 10hrs after I posted this I had my baby girl - at home in the pool - 9lb 1 - no stitches!!!
