ELC (baby number 2) how long do i have to stay in hospital

hey everyone :) i am booked in for section 4 weeks on friday, this is my second child, DS will be 3 in a few months

how long do i have to stay in hospital for after this section (last birth was emergency section)

Most places say 48hrs, some may let you out in 24 if you make a fuss. Ask your midwife as it could be different where you're going. But remember its not a prison.

I had an ELCS 8 days ago at Royal Berks, DD was born at 9.30am on Friday and I was home 4pm Sunday, I could have stayed another night if I'd wanted to but they were happy for me to go home on the Sunday.

thanks for the replies - Lockets - that sounds ideal !! i am really getting myself in such a stupid tizzy about leaving my DS too long, although i know he will be fine with DH and my parents etc- i just would rather not be in for any longer than 2 days if poss !

My first DS was born by emergency section at 1.04am on the saturday morning and i got home (well i signed myself out) on the monday afternoon - i felt better being home in my own surroundings (bed & bathroom & food etc)

my daughter was born by ELCS at noon on thursday and we were discharged yesterday morning

I had elcs mon & home on wed. Girl in opposite bed had elcs no2 on monday & home tue afternoon!!!

Hospitals want you home as soon as possible, your bed costs them money. Lots and lots.
Usually 48 hours at most. But could be 24 hours if you both well.
But you need to recover your legs, from spinal, do a wee after catheter out and give them time to do the paperwork, which btw is load and loads. Things to stop you going home are:-
Pain, everyone is different every section different, if you are in alot of pain you might want stronger painkillers and stay longer.
Baby might need to stay for observation 12 - 24 hours if any meconium when break your waters, if you a group B strep carrier. Or if baby small for his/her dates.
When you get home remember to have support, you will need to rest etc.
