hi, i am 5-6 weeks at the moment and have just spoken to my gp about referral to an obstetrician ( previous pelvic fracture with metal work) as i need an elective section. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an obstetrician please- have had so much surgery- i just want it doing well and to be a positive experience.

I had Charlotte Patient and Gerald Hackett. Of course the best part was texting dh to tell him I would be seeing Hackett & Patient later!

But they seemed good. Not sure how you tell really. They talked me through everything, gave me good advice, and I ended up with a nice neat scar. does that help?

I have seen nearly all the consultant obs at Addenbrookes (3 pgs, emergency c-s, VBAC, nuchal scans, Fetal Medicine, you name it!). I haven't had a bad experience with any of them. I do have a friend who found Mr. Hackett a bit 'off', but then I feel she gives off a very 'defensive' (don't know if that's quite the right word!) attitude when faced with medical professionals - seems to assume they're all trying to hide something, you know?

I had Charlotte Patient during my pregnancy as well (but honestly can't remember who ended up delivering Toddler as it's all a bit of a blur). I really liked her and like playdoh found she explained everything, didn't make me feel silly for asking questions (even if I asked several times so I could wrap my brain around everything).

Because I'm not British I don't fully understand the whole UK hospital/doctor positioning thing (is a consultant higher/lower than a doctor than a registrar, etc) so I went around to telling everyone at home I was seeing "Dr Patient." (HA!)

I have a complicated medical history, and loads more things crop up while pregnant/about to deliver. Overall I found everyone at Addenbrooke's/Rosies lovely and wonderful and had a very positive experience.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!
