Ok, had my first section and was wondering what is normal when it comes to poo!?
I've had two in the 4 days since my section and both although reasonably easy to pass they were black...normal?!

Thanks

Are you taking iron tablets by any chance? They definitely have this side effect!

Mine was 10 years ago. I had no problems with pooing but they weren't black.
Have you been taking iron supplements? That can make them black, but they would always have been the same.
Do they smell odd? Old digested blood does come out in your poo but it has a very distinctive smell. IIWY, I'd ask my midwife when she calls round.
If you feel giddy though, it may well be worthwhile making a GP appt just to be on the safe side.
Good luck.

poo shouldn't be black with a CS.

get it checked

AlpinePony · 17/05/2011 14:20

Yes, mine were black - due to the enormous quantities of seedy rye bread I was eating in preparation for that first poo! Wink

Saw the midwife yesterday and she said it's coz of the iron tablets...Phew!

Hi, I had a section on the 9th, I read your post the other day, and presumed like others had replied it was from iron tablets. However, I was reading the leaflet that came with the diclofenac (sp) tablets I've been prescribed. It says if stools are black/tar like to seek medical advice straight away. Are you taking the same tablets?

Our internet hasn't been working so couldn't reply until now.
