36 Weeks and Started!?

Hi, I'm 36+ and went into hosp on sunday with pains, came out after finding id got a water infection! Thought it was just the baby pressing on my bladder! Anyway they said I was 2 cm dilated. Last night I had what I think was the 'show'. Forgive the details, but a snotty type of mucus that was pink and red after my bath. But there was a HUGE amount of it. The labour ward said it was ok and just call them when the contractions start! Apparently they're not too worried about the baby as its already about 7 lb!! How long will we have to wait cos to be honest I cant wait now!! Can ANYONE help!?
Cheers

Oooh how exciting It sounds very much like the show, mine looked like someone with a nosebleed had sneezed into my knickers ! I had my show at approx 12noon (no contractions or anything) and then my DD was born at 2.31am the following morning after a 3 hour labour (incredibly intense but thankfully very short!). If there is still no sign of labour in 24/36 hours I'd contact the hospital again and let them know that it is x hours since you had your show, they may not want to leave it too long due to the small risk of infection. Best of luck.

Though I do remember reading in my pre-birth 'bible' (Miriam Stoppard The new pregnancy and birth book) that it can take up to 7 days for labour to start post show !

I've read that as well I've got slight backache now but it could be the way Im sat! and the odd 'period pain' type twinge! You know how it is now though, I could get a pain in my big toe and be convinced it was labour!!
Just had to get on the net to pass the time though. Think we'll have to go out tonight to take our minds off it. Well at least I got to leave work earlier! He He!
Thanks x

Sadly a show is not a definate sign that things are going to happen very soon, although it does show that things are moving in the right direction at least. Even being 2cm dilated (assuming this is not your first?) is not really an indication of anything. Second time around your cervix can start to dilate slightly (days, even weeks) before labour starts.

That said, sometimes a show DOES appear shortly before labour starts. Good luck, either way!

I'm afraid it is my first, I think thats why I'm so nervous!

With my first I had a show 3 weeks before I went into labour. Hopefully for you though, if you are ready, then you won't have to wait as long.

Good luck

My show was on a Thursday a few days after my due date, didn't start having contractions until early hours of the Sunday morning and then had 48 hours of mild - moderate contractions until things really started going crazy and my dd was born on the Tuesday evening ... so a fair gap.

Oakmaiden is right, but given this is your first 2cm dilated is already quite an achievement ... took me days of contractions to get that far!!

So good luck ... and keep us posted ... oooh am getting quite broody just at the thought of it

ah well, if it is not your first then make sure you have everything rady to go!

mrsbeyst · 30/09/2003 17:16

I'll let you all know as soon as there is ANY change! Hubby's just got home, guess what his 1st question was! At least being on line stops the motherinlaw from checking every 5 mins!!
Going to take your advice now, off for a nice 'warm' bath then I think me and my husband will go for a nice outing! (Seeing as we may be 3 or in labour on our first wedding anniv on Sunday!!
Thanks all xxx

I was aboout 2 cm dilated for a good 2 or 3 weeks before I went into labour, but then I hadm't had a show.

Hope it's all happening for you. hard to wait out the last few weeks, isn't it?
Good luck

Good luck. Same thing happened to me, water infection caused labour type pains, however mine was several weeks before and then my daughter was born at 37 weeks. Strangely enough with all three of my girls I went into what I thought was labour several weeks before they were born and I knew it wasnt Braxton Hicks as I had those really strong as well! Take care. x
