Water Births

I am very interested in having a water birth, can anyone shed some more light on things they liked or disliked about them through experience. I would feel terrible if I asked for one and was only in it for 10 mins because I didnt like it. This is my first baby, so undecided as to which route to take.

No one is going to mind if you don't find it comfortable and want to get out.

I found it great, the water helped take the weight off and was quite warm so very soothing. I only had a little tear which didn't require stitches which could well have been because of the water allowing the skin to stretch more. For me there was nothing negative about it so I would say go for it and don't worry about changing your mind.

I loved my water births, I still remember the utter euphoric feeling when I was in hard labour and got into the pool. It was sheer bliss. I became lightweight, warm and relaxed. Just like getting into a warm, soft, comfy bed when you're exhausted.

Give it a go by all means, if you don't like it, just get out Smile

I also really enjoyed my waterbirth. We had a homebirth and I worried that I might hate the pool as soon as I got in (having bought it and had it ready for weeks) but it was fabulous. I was dying to get in and felt immediate relief when I was. The midwife even managed to examine me when I was in it as I think she understood there was no way I was getting out!

I had a waterbirth and loved it. So relaxing. Can't imagine giving birth on dry land now..

I'd say if you're considering it, definitely ask for one - you've got nothing to lose. As the others have said, if you don't like it you can always get out.
