this is prob in the wrong place, but my newborn wants to be cuddled all the time - thinking of getting a sling but not sure if to go for ring, wrap or pouch - any advice gratefully received :) ~(typed one handed as have baby in other arm!)

Yes a stretchy wrap definitely :)

EsioTrot · 10/05/2011 19:34

I'll add my vote for a stretchy wrap, mine saved my sanity and ensured that DH, DS and I got fed and clean clothes.

Bumperlicioso · 10/05/2011 19:44

Stretchy wrap. Loved my Kari me.

I've got a Moby wrap waiting. Just need the baby now!

I loved my stretchy wrap but DH used it more than I did. When he got home from work he'd take the baby outside to water the garden. So it is definitely worth getting a colour that you can both wear - I don't think DH would have been so enthusiastic if it had been light pink or flowery!

I also have a pouch one but could never really get on with it.

Thanks, have ordered a stretchy wrap type!!! In a neutral colour (have already envisaged DH using it, not sure how he feels about that!)!

why stretchy and not ring sling? I'm on DC2 (37 wks pg) and new to slings. I bought a ring sling as a friend recommended it, why is stretchy better?

To all those using wraps/slings - A note of caution

I bought one for my daughter when she was a couple of weeks old due to reflux, she hated being led down and wasn't a fan of her chair either. Was fab and saved all of us a lot of tears. BUT - I have just got back from the GP as I was worried about DD's uneven leg creases and she has been referred for a hip scan to check for hip dysplaysia. Having done some reading in the last week I have found that swaddling and in particular the moby wrap sling can exaserbate a pre existing hip problem. I'm not saying that every child would have this problem, but in DD's case it probably hasn't help her and had I been aware of this then I wouldn't have swaddled her and I would have used the hug hold with the Moby with her legs out, this position encourages the hip joint to form properly.

Don't wish to frighten anyone or be the doom monger but I feel all should be informed.

Another vote for moby. Ds falls asleep in it within minutes. However, i find that we both get v hot in warm weather. Make sue you watch videos on how to wear.

Pipoca a ring sling is good too - I just found a wrap slightly easier to use :)

JJW that's good information, thanks.
