I'd like to cheer myself up and read some labour starting stories so I can believe it does just start up randomly :)

DS was an induction.

DS2s birth started on his due date after a lovely day out - i lay down to put DS1 to bed and got a contration!

DDs started after a sweep and the cramps turned to contractions

:)

I was watching a film the evening of my due date. I felt uncomfy and kept getting up, DP noticed I was getting uncomfy regularly and it all kicked off. Thirteen hours later DS arrived.

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2011 16:20

Sitting eating dinner and watching Kill Bill and my waters went with an audible pop. Contractions began soon after.

nunnie · 09/05/2011 16:34

DD was watching casualty and then got a severe case of the trots and niggly pains.

DS was woken with niggly pains, then the trots then pain got regular.

Imnotaslimjim · 09/05/2011 16:38

Woke at 5am with massively painful backache. Managed to get to the loo and back (had a big clear out Blush then woke DH who took me to hospital. got checked and Hb was dropping so they monitored me for 6 hours then sent me home cos it had all stopped. Took all day to build up to full-on contractions and didn't go back to hospital til 11 that night

HRHJoyceOfBarnaby · 09/05/2011 16:40

Woke up to find I'd had a show, hour later my waters broke (not fully, but enough to know that's what had happened), contractions started a bit a couple of hours later, intensified late that evening and DS eventually born 4pm the following day.

harrygracejessica · 09/05/2011 17:36

DS1 was planned c-sec

Girl twins, I sat up in bed at 33 weeks and my waters went pop so had to go straight in, girls born by c-sec 36 hours later after steroids for lungs etc

Boy twins (2 weeks ago) had been at hospital for pre op for c-sec and on the way home had some huge contractions, got home 25 mins later and my waters went so back to hospital and the boys born 4 hours later by c-sec.

TotorosOcarina · 09/05/2011 19:36

wow boy and girl twins! thats wonderful!

dd1 woke about 1:30 am and went to the toilet to find my waters trickling, contractions started soon after. dd was born at 14:43 by emcs due to failure to progress.

ds had a sweep the day before, bloody show.. woke just after midnight having contractions 3 mins apart (no previous niggles) he was born 2.5hrs later naturally after arriving in hospital 9cm dilated!

dd2 53 min labour start to finish.. woke having contractions, never got to time them and nearly had her in the car.

ds2..still cooking will find out inaround 3 weeks :)

PrincessScrumpy · 09/05/2011 19:51

Woke up desperate for the loo so went - after 20 mins I was still going and realised my waters had gone. DD1 was born 2 hours later.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 09/05/2011 20:01

Two days after my due date I woke up at 3am in some pain, in bed at home. I still didn't believe it was the real thing until I had paced the floor for some hours, half trying to watch Corrie and not really being able to follow it!

Drove over to hospital about midday and baby took a loooooong time to finally arrive, they broke my waters for me.

LadyMetroland · 09/05/2011 20:54

While having a bath, realised I had period pains, which then built up over the evening to regular contractions - all in my lower front abdomen. When they were 5 mins apart, went into hospital and they found my cervix wasn't even open!!! Oh the tears...

Am hoping it will all be different this time round ... 40+1 today

LawrieMarlow · 09/05/2011 21:03

With DS was in hospital anyway (had been in and out with high blood pressure. Had been decided it was pre eclampsia and I was going to be induced on the Saturday). Woke up at 6:30 on Friday morning with a saturated bed Grin. This was at 38+2 so quite impressed with his timing. Had niggles through the day and contractions started properly at 6:45pm. DS born at 2:50am on Saturday morning.

With DD had a sweep at 40+3. blood pressure had been v high for first time that pg. Next day woke up about 6:30 and went downstairs. at about 6:45 thought I felt something familar and painful. By 7am went to wake DH and by 9 we were at the hospital. DD born at 1:26pm :)

misschatterbox · 09/05/2011 21:13

DD1 contractions started early in the morning, 5 days before due date, she was born at 11:35pm that night.

DD2 contractions started early morning, 10 days after due date, she arrived at 12:15pm that day.

DS1 woke up at 4:15am on my birthday, desperate for the toilet. As soon as I got to the bathroom my waters broke, 45mins later the contractions started. 4hrs later DS1 arrived.

spiderlight · 09/05/2011 21:19

Three weeks early, woke up at 3.36 in the morning with a vague period-type cramp. Thought 'Oh, what was that?' Fifteen minutes later, had another. Fifteen minutes after that, thought maybe I'd better wake DH and tell him that we might possibly, maybe, probably-not-but-I-wasn't-ruling-it-out, be on amber alert. They were regular as clockwork from the outset but so mild that I was sure it was a false alarm and DH went back to bed, but I rang the MLU and my midwife popped in on her morning rounds just in case and I was 4-5cm :o Things cranked up very slowly all day and DS was eventually born at 10.36, exactly 19 hours after it had all started.

MrsNoggin · 10/05/2011 16:47

Mild contractions started on a Thursday evening. Every fifteen minutes or so. They just dwelled for a day or so and they weren't getting any worse and I was mighty fed up, so I decided to go out for dinner with friends on the Friday night (what was I thinking?!). Stood up from garden bench to go and get ready and my waters exploded everywhere (including over DH's shoes Grin).

Went to hospital for monitoring, got sent home. The next day I went to hospital again for monitoring and got sent home again. Contractions stepped up to every 5 mins. Went back in and got sent home again!

Marched into labour ward, grumpy and exhausted, on the Sunday afternoon with my bag and refused to go home without my baby. Was induced at 5ish and had DD at 9pm.

It was long and tiring, but we got there eventually!

Thornykate · 10/05/2011 19:28

DS1 I was 2 weeks pastdue date but MW gave me a sweep that morning as cervix looked ready to go. I had arranged to meet a friend after lunch at her flat, she had left me a key to wait there until she finished work. As I was waiting her lovely elderly nan popped in for a cup of tea but unfortunately she tripped up over the step & fell :(

It was at this time that my contractions really kicked in but I didn't want to alarm mates nan so I carried on looking after her with cold compresses on her sore knee etc although I did keep disappearing into the corridor to walk/rock through contractions!

My friend came back a few hrs later & we went straight to hosp and they put me on delivery suite as I was 4cm dilated although I didn't give birth until 8 hours later.

DS2 I was 2 days post due date & fed up with waiting. I remember flouncing back to bed with a book at about 10am & saying I was staying there until I went into labour. And contractions started at about lunchtime Grin DS2 arrived 8hrs later.

DS3 I had a show at midnight & contractions kicked in pretty much straight away, he arrived 6 & a half hours later. I was exactly 39 wks.

Am hoping DC4 arrives v soon, I am 37+5 & impatiently waiting.

stegasaurus · 12/05/2011 10:46

At 38+6 woke up at 2.40am to discover waters had broken. I rang the hospital who suggested I went in later in the morning, so DH and I made up the moses basket and went back to bed. Contractions started after about 30 mins and were 3-4 mins apart right from the start. Went to hospital at about 6 and was 8cm dilated. DD was born at 9.25 :)

BananaMuffin · 12/05/2011 10:51

Eating a pizza on my due date, and my waters broke with a huge pop - all over the sofa!! My contractions, which up until that moment had only felt like Braxton Hicks tightenings (albeit getting more regular), suddenly became 100 times more intense. We called the hospital who told us to stay at home, but I insisted that my husband drove me there... I was 8cm when we got there. 2 hours later, baby arrived!

LostInTransmogrification · 12/05/2011 10:57

Four days early an audible pop woke me at one in the morning. Sat up and said to DH "my waters have broken!". Squelched carefully to the loo and then had a cup of tea before phoning the midwives unit. Went in at about two o'clock for monitoring, stayed for two hours (still leaking) before going home via Tescos (for supplies for DH) and contractions started about five o'clock. Was a bit sick and had the runs and by about nine o'clock the pain was bad enough to head back to the hospital. Was 10cm by one o'clock, DS emerged finally by quarter to seven. Lovely hot sunny day so was a sweaty red faced mess radiant by the end.

lindy100 · 12/05/2011 13:04

My waters began to break while I was having a nice Sunday lunch in the pub with all my in laws - MIL, FIL, 95yr old Grandpa IL and divorced, childless Uncle IL.

Luckily they were trickling, so no one knew - I wasn't sure for a while.

Slightly less luckily, I didn't go into labour and was eventually induced. DD born 5 and a half days after the pub lunch.

Although once I acutally got going, after lots of pessaries and a couple of sweeps, I was apparently quick - 3 hrs to pushing.

Truckdriver · 12/05/2011 20:45

Woke up at 5am with period like pains, very mild. Thought it might be 'it' but was worried as had not shaved legs :o so got up and had a bath to shave legs. While in bath contractions cranked up to 4 mins apart, MW called out at 10.30 (for HB), 6cm at 12ish and baby born at 4pm.

roundthehouses · 12/05/2011 21:46

ds1 waters broke about 2am in bed, about 6am off to hospital to see what they reckoned (irregular contractions) whereupon absolutely nothing further happened til 10pm that night, ds born 2pm the next day.

ds2 painless contractions all day (thought they were BHs) getting steadier and more frequent as the day went on, by 10pm thought we should go and see what the hospital thought got monitored but only 1cm so sent home (waaah but not altogether unexpected). Home at 12am water broke at 12.30 contractions increased intensity significantly, back in car, contractions ramping up. Arrive hospital 1am ds2 born 1.50am!

PipPipPip · 14/05/2011 00:51

Period-like pains at 3am in the morning. I thought "here we go!" but didn't wake my partner up because I knew there'd be a long haul ahead...

Most exciting day of my life :)

clakspak · 14/05/2011 07:32

Woke up at 2.45am, feeling as if I had been punched in the stomach. Had the runs, and then contractions were 4 minutes apart. In hind sight had had slight period type pain the previous day. Went in to hospital when the contractions were 3 mins apart at 5.30am, DS born by (unexpected!) vaginal breech at 8.14 am. All a bit of a shock, but I'd do it again in a flash!

frakyouveryverymuch · 14/05/2011 07:47

BHs intensified after a long walk Wednesday evening to proper contractions which got more regular and painful throughout the evening. Bloody show at midnight, decided it was labour. Went into hospital at 6h to check presentation etc as DS was shifting between transverse and vertex and we'd agreed I could do 6 hours at home - only 2cm but they would let ms go in case he shifted back. Labour stalled for 4 bloody hours. Ramped up again at 10h, 6cm at 13h so went to delivery suite, DS born at 16.33!
