I was just starting to fret about this - yesterday a pregnancy test, this morning a period. Phew!

I think it depends on your individual physiology foremost, then whether you are breastfeeding or not, since this does produce it's own set of hormones which is supposed to suppress ovulation.

My ds is 6.5 months, and I am still breastfeeding, although he switched very suddenly to solids about 5-6 weeks ago, and this now constitutes his major calorie intake. I do one big feed in the morning, maybe 4 small feeds during the day, a feed at bedtime and a dreamfeed.

NotJustKangaskhan · 04/05/2011 10:12

Breastfeeding for all three - with my first, it didn't return til he was 19 months, with my second it was 15 months, with my third it was closer to a year.

Im formula feeding so it could be any day, damnit! ds is 5 weeks

I'd be surprised if it was that early, I think the earliest that I've heard of anyone falling pregnant after dc1 is about 6 months. It takes a while for your hormones to realign.

  • 6 months and bottle feeding
Metalhead · 04/05/2011 10:47

About 8 months, once DC was down to 3 breastfeeds a day.

nunnie · 04/05/2011 11:25

I got my first period at 10 weeks (FF) haven't had one since Blush am 20 weeks pregnant.

AKMD · 04/05/2011 11:30

14 months, breastfeeding. There are a few threads about this in the breastfeeding / bottle feeding forum for more people's experiences :)

SelinaDoula · 04/05/2011 11:34

14 months, breastfeeding (only started after I stopped feeding completely)

speculationisrife · 04/05/2011 11:41

7 months. I ebf till 4.5 months then mix fed. Went down to two bfs at 6.5 months and dropped it altogether at 7.5 months, by which time dd was on 1 bf and taking very little. Have a friend who bf'd for a few weeks, then switched to ff, and was pg by the time her first was 3 months - 'tis very quick for some people!

Lainey1981 · 04/05/2011 15:30

7 weeks, bf for 3 weeks then Fully FF

JJWMummy · 04/05/2011 22:21

DS 1 - lochia till 6 weeks - period at 8 weeks
DS 2 - lochia till 4 weeks - period at 6 weeks
DD 1 - lochia till 6 weeks - period at 11 weeks (Girls huh!!!!)

You can have a period anytime after 21 days post partum, you don't ovulate before this.
Found it a pain in the bum this time cause I knew it was going to turn up and going by the boys I expected it fairly quick but noooo, that would be to easy, felt really uneasy going out not knowing if it would turn up.

JJWMummy · 04/05/2011 22:21

Forgot to say, all FF

4pudding · 04/05/2011 22:30

About 14 months, bfed until 16 months.

babynelly2010 · 04/05/2011 22:53

12 weeks, breast feeding... i guess i was not as lucky

ShowOfHands · 04/05/2011 22:56

BFing 2hrly day and night, no dummies, no formula, no nothing. Ovulated at 11 weeks, dh thought I was imagining it. Nope, period turned up 13 days later.

I was robbed I tell you, robbed.

Undutchable · 04/05/2011 22:58

5 months BF with DS1, had 2 periods then became pregnant with DS2. 18 months (also breast fed) with him.

Undutchable · 04/05/2011 22:59

Difference was - DS1 slept through the night! DS2 still hasn't Confused

bessie26 · 05/05/2011 07:37

DD1 ebf until 6 months when I introduced solids, period at 7 months.

jcp123 · 06/05/2011 14:33

Bled for 6 weeks post, then break for week then period which was a surprise as I'm exclusively breastfeeding. Not had once since and DS is 3 months now.

firstforthought · 07/05/2011 20:54

ds is 6 months - still no period. EBF ntil 5 months then bf and some solids.

pettyprudence · 09/05/2011 18:55

I feel very cheated - my ds1 is nearly 6 weeks old, had lochia for 4 weeks (although only spotting for 3 of those weeks) and then what seems to be a fresh period for the last week. I am EBF and crossing my fingers that I wont see AF for a few more months again. I have always hated periods dammit!

Chica31 · 09/05/2011 18:58

8 months.

Breast fed, went back to work at 7.5 months

Eglu · 09/05/2011 18:59

I bf both DSes for only a few weeks but didn't get periods for 6 months with both.

My friend however bf her DD for about 10 months but got periods back after 4 weeks.

clarebear1 · 11/05/2011 21:20

Mine arrived saturday which is quite weird just after i started this thread. So a couple of days before 6 weeks for me, god ive missed them!...... NOT!
