The Royal London Hospital - recent experiences please?

Could anyone please let me know of their recent experiences at the Royal London Hospital - good, bad or indifferent (the latter unlikely!). It used to have a bad reputation several years ago but recently, there seem to have been some improvements. Have things actually improved? My main concerns are the staff during labour - not so interested in postnatal care, etc., as I would imagine that this would be similar to other London hospitals. Are the staff considerate, caring, competent, knowledgeable, professional, etc.? Thanks for any input.

My experience was 2.9 years ago so maybe not as recent as you'd like, but I found the staff during labour to be excellent, competent, explained things to me, supportive and very knowledgeable. It would be surprising if they weren't as it is a top teaching hospital. I had also heard horror stories but I would trust them again if I felt I needed medical care during my delivery.
The postnatal care was however appalling, but we were stuck there for 6 days due to complications, if we'd gone home quicker it would have been fine.

hi i've had both my babies at the local birth centre barkantine which i would recommend. if this isnt a possibility for you i've heard really good stories about the midwife care at royal london (one person who had long labour said each of the four midwives who looked after her during this time amazing, another friend transferred there in labour from the birth centre ended up with section also v happy with midwife care), also one bad one from friend who had induction then complicated labour. think the hospital just rough around the edges to look at although they are opening the new hospital pretty soon i think-maybe next yr.
also i met several of the midwives during the nhs antenatal classes at royal london (which were really good by the way) and they seemed great.
if u dont feel confident enough could go to uch or homerton xxx

My experience echoes Nightsdrawingin exactly....excellent care during 'labour' (had EMCS before labour started, but they were brilliant with managing that) and pretty dire postnatal care (although a couple of lovely midwives amongst the chaos and indifference). I was out in less than 36 hours as I was so desparate to get home and fed (I'd have been malnourished if forced to eat their food any longer!).
