ELCS dates questions

LoopyLoopsNincompoop · 02/05/2011 00:19

Is anyone able to answer a couple of ELCS related questions please?

How close to your EDD was your ELCS booked in for?
How far in advance was it booked?
When did you have the pre-op?
Were you admitted that day or the night before?
How long were you in for?

Thanks. :)

Booked at about 32 weeks (breech twin)

Pre-op day before

WhatSheSaid · 02/05/2011 04:31

Elcs at 39 + 1
Booked at about 34 wks
Pre-op - is that the blood tests etc? Was the day before.
Admitted 7.30 am, elcs was meant to be at 9am but delayed till 11am
Elcs Fri morning, came home Monday morning

WidowWadman · 02/05/2011 08:36

39+0 was the earliest I could get.

I had it booked at my 20 week scan appointment (went in there well-prepared, otherwise I would have probably been sent home for another think)

Will have to go in for bloods 3 days before, then clerking the day before, and turn up at 7:30 AM on the day of the surgery.

After my EMCS I was in for 2 nights (including the night of the section), and have been told that if no complications I can expect the same again

How close to your EDD was your ELCS booked in for? - 39+1. Although my waters broke ten days early, so I ended up having the CS early! (DS was just short of 38 weeks, so term).

How far in advance was it booked? When I was 6 months pregnant.

When did you have the pre-op? I'm not entirely sure I had one. I had bloodes taken and was weighed some weeks beforehand. I was given some sort of antacid the night before, when I went to hospital because my waters broke.

Were you admitted that day or the night before? I was given the option of coming in the night before, or the next morning. I chose the next morning, to get a last night's sleep in my own bed. Had to be there by 8.

How long were you in for? Went in Thursday 8 am - had the op Thursday at around 6pm. Had catheter out Friday morning, was able to walk (stiffly to start with) Friday morning - walked from recovery room to new ward Friday lunchtime quite happily, if slowly - was sent home Saturday pm. So 2 nights. I could have gone home Saturday morning, there were just delays getting paediatricians to to do routine checks on the Saturday.

How close to your EDD was your ELCS booked in for? 39 weeks.

How far in advance was it booked? About a month IIRC.

When did you have the pre-op? A week before and an extra visit for bloods that they couldn't do at the pre-op for timing reasons. Something to do with the blood having to be done a couple of days before.

Were you admitted that day or the night before? That morning at 8am, no food the night night before.

How long were you in for? 3 days. Pestered them for a private room and had a nice time feeding dd and reading the weekend papers in peace.

How close to your EDD was your ELCS booked in for? 38+6

How far in advance was it booked? booked in at 16 weeks, the reg agreed I had done my research re:risks etc and said they would book me in nearer the time and I said I wanted to be booked in now.

When did you have the pre-op? Erm think it was a week before.

Were you admitted that day or the night before? that day, think we had to be there for 6:30am Shock, but then I was first on the days list.

How long were you in for? 2 nights, second night in private room which is worth every single penny if you can afford it.

peanutbutterontoast · 02/05/2011 10:09

How close to your EDD was your ELCS booked in for? - between 38-38+3, this one (6th section) is booked for 37+2
How far in advance was it booked? - after 12 week scan
When did you have the pre-op? - one week before
Were you admitted that day or the night before? - on the morning of the section (7am)
How long were you in for? - 2-3 nights generally.

Chynah · 02/05/2011 20:51

#1 @ 39+1 #2 @ 39 exactly
#1 2 weeks before #2 @ 29 weeks
Pre Op was done in the morning after admittance both times
in the morning both times (7.30 am)
#1 3 nights #2 2 nights

LoopyLoopsNincompoop · 02/05/2011 21:56

Thank you all, that's really useful.

So is the general consensus that I should go for a private room if possible? I am ore likely to get one if available apparently, as this is pregnancy after a stillbirth, but thought it might be a little lonely. I'll rethink that.

Thanks all. :)

God yes! Unfortunately I've only managed to get one once (despite being prepared to pay - £240/night Shock ) it made a massive difference to my general well being. I find being on the ward hellish.

I'm so sorry about your loss Sad

LoopyLoopsNincompoop · 02/05/2011 22:30

Thanks Peanut. :)

My first which was an EMCS I was in general ward, went home exhausted. Second was ELCS, general ward first night (which is protocol for post c-section apparently easier to keep an eye on for the nurses) second night private room and I actually got some sleep and went home (not refreshed) but feeling a hell of a lot better than the first. Tbh I didn't find people really talked in the wards anyway too caught up in their own little worlds IYSWIM.

hazeyjane · 03/05/2011 09:45

Loopy, so sorry for your loss.

With ds I was given a private room, because ds was in SCBU, and I was a bit of a wreck after the section. I was so glad of it, because I really wanted to just be on my own and with dh, and I got some decent sleep!

I was very lucky, because the MWs were really attentive, and I was very near the MW station, but if you do have a private room - make sure your buzzer works and don''t be afraid to use it, especially if its for keeping up pain relief (if you need it). Also make sure you find out where the food/tea is served, they often forget to tell you these things.

scaryfairy28 · 04/05/2011 17:47

Booked today 37+6 for 39 weeks.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 04/05/2011 22:27

thanks all. :)

Mine was booked yesterday (32 weeks) for 38+6, first thing. It's on a Friday so she said I should be out on the Sunday evening.

It's so weird having a date, isn't it?
