Sweeping successes...!

I am 40+4 and had a sweep yesterday afternoon. Cramping all evening, but today I have felt pretty much OK. Odd twinges here and there, but certainly nothing that makes me think I'm going in to labour. Got another sweep booked for tomorrow. My bishop's score was 5 - MW seemed to think everything was very 'favourable', esp. as it's my first.

Interested to hear other people's sweeping experiences. Did they work and if so, how long did it take you to go in to labour?

Thanks in advance.

Hi - I had a sweep with my first at 40 + 7, went into labour 36 hours later and DD born very quickly 4 hours after the first contraction!

Thanks for your replies. Dartfordmummy flipping heck - that's quick!

So...nothing yet. Had another sweep on Friday (which was far more uncomfortable than first) and DH and i have had fun time twice too! Bishop's score up to 8 on Friday. Had this PM what I think is the beginning of a show (clear snotty discharge) and a bit of cramping. Fingers crossed this is the start.

But if all else fails, induction is booked for Friday. Having seen the lovely 'low-intervention' labour rooms with pool, I really hope that I can do things on my own before then!

Thanks again.

I'm 40weeks +4 today. And expected to have a sweep on Wednesday.

This is my second child on its way.

With the first I was lucky DS came more or less on time. But I was very anti having any kind of inducement then.

This time I have done no NCT classes and not read any books. Does a sweep change things ie speed things up as much as other kinds of induction are supposed to. I believe from previous NCT classes that other kinds of induction can send labour out of control.

Can a sweep have this sort of effect too?

I had a sweep with baby no2 at 40+1 and was very favourable 3-4cm.
woke just after midnight with contractions 3 mins apart!! he was born 2.5hrs later at 40+2 xx
