Anyone got any nice stories about induction? Im soo worried my other pregnancy was fine had my DS at 3 days over. This bugger despite stretch and sweeps has just stayed in there. Man im so fed up of contractions coming and going and coming and going its been like that for a month. They come at night and I cant sleep!! I have my 5yr old DS off school at the moment so no time for rest. Also feel really bad as Im not up to much some days we have been out every day since he was off school last Wed with exception of Monday wehn I was just too tired. My mum is coming down tonight on the train and staying until Saturday (she has rubbish shifts to work) she lives 1 1/2 hours away. So hoping for a little break with DS tomorrow Smile the only good thing is that DS is staying with his dad from tomorrow night for a week. But on the other hand will miss DS and he will miss the arrival of brother/sister. I want to do more with DS before he goes tommorow night. Everyone says im off my head and have done loads with him and that I worry too much! Think Im used to being with DS and having one child and Im worried I will be able to spread my self enough for 2 children so trying to make the most of the time I have with DS on our own by trying to fight off the tired feeling. Smile

I had a lovely and very quick induction!

The very best tip I had was to walk to speed up the process. They popped the tablet up (not uncomfortable) and then I was told to see them in six hours. Iirc I had to wait around for about an hour after they popped the tablet in, while they monitored the baby and redid my blood pressure etc.

After that I was free to so as I pleased so walked to the shop and then spent hours walking the corridor and going up and down the stairs. (With little magazine breaks in between!)

The fact I'd been walking apparently helped the tablet work and I was already about a cm dilated after 6 hours. They popped my waters, contractions started immediatly and 3 hours, 3 mins later DD arrived!

Good luck :o

Mine was fine. There have been a couple of threads on this in Pregnancy that I've posted on-do try and find them as they are full of positive stories and good advice.

Although further intervention is more likely after induction, please don't think you are bound to have a cascade of problems and procedures-it's not inevitable.

Once labour was established (pessaries and gel) I took 9 hours to have my DS. The contractions were very frequent and painful so I did have an epidural, but no other interventions. The final pushing stage was incredibly quick. All in all it was fine, a pretty good labour experience.

And you probably are worrying too much about your DS-it sounds as though you've done a lot with him.

Good luck!

Thanks ladies just feels wierd having another baby when I love my DS soo much just cant see how you cna love another one the same?! Weird eh? Im very blessed to have 2 children I have firends who cant have children. I feel like a whinning git!! Thanks for your induction stories. Its made me feel a little better. I hope the gel works for me I hope they give me an epidurial I had one with DS as was in labour for ages and he was back to back this one is too (its supposed to hurt more I dont know?) I like the thougth of induction in one way your going in and deffo coming out with something! Rather than the rubbish visits to hospital and they say well not much going on you can go home! At least something will happen. I hope there more willing to give and epidurial as well due to being induced as the contractions can come on thick and fast is that right? Smile

Try not to overdo it tomorrow with DS, conserve a bit of energy.

After the faffing around with the pessaries trying to get things moving, I had my waters broken - contractions started 1 hr later (and were 'full on' straight away- I hadn't had any contractions up to this point so it was a bit of a Shock), they lasted 7 hrs, got through with gas & air, 10 mins pushing. Can't complain really!!

Good luck!!

FannyFifer · 20/04/2011 12:42

I was induced on my second child at just over 40 weeks, I was dilated about 3-4cm when checked so they only had to break my waters, no gels or anything needed.

I didn't need an epidural this time, had one on my first child who was induced early. Was much more manageable second time round.

Good luck, you will be fab. :)

Just marking my place as due to be induced next week (@40+12) and have similar worries. Keep the good stories coming! Smile

Shuv66 · 20/04/2011 16:44

Jumping on this one too - also due to be induced week today (40+12) which is also my DH birthday - double whammy!!

scruffyhound I totally understand how you feel about DS, my DS is 4 in June and I've had many moments over the past weeks of realising his little world is going to change BUT having said that he is really excited about being a big brother and we've talked about all the things he will be able to teach his sister when she arrives, so I'm hopeful he will adjust well :)

Good luck all!!

marzipanlover · 20/04/2011 17:13

Hello! I am also going to be induced next tues (40+12) and really not looking forward to it, so loving all these positive stories...

FannyFifer · 20/04/2011 21:05

Shuv, my DS was 4, nearly 5 when his little sister arrived, it's a fantastic age gap, they adore each other, he is brilliant with her and will keep an eye on her etc, she is 14 months now and they are best pals.

Good luck to everyone getting induced, it's honestly not so bad. X

quasimodo123 · 21/04/2011 09:06

I was induced on Tuesday at 37+1 as my hind waters had broken a week earlier. Gel inserted and after half hr monitoring was free to do as I pleased for 6 hours so walked around, sat out in sun and eventually went back to my room to be told I was 3 cm! Had only had relatively mild period type pain. They broke my waters and after using gas and air and after 4 hrs 57 minutes later my DS arrived with no complications or tears.
He came home yesterday

No smugness intended just a positive experience.

Shuv66 · 21/04/2011 11:51
