I've convinced myself that because my 2 dc were "late" this one will be too...could you share your story please?

Thats right, isnt it? presumably, if I've went overdue with 2 children it is likely that this is how long my body believes pregnancy to be for(ish) and the likelihood of me going in into labour early is between slim and zero.

I only ask because, again, I've convinced myself I've loads of time and its fine that I havent even thought of packing a back etc (34weeks) but cue comments for everyone (family, work etc) about how massive I am/ low down bump is/ how tired I suddenly look Im starting to slightly wonder if this is always the case and whether it would be worthwhile to prepare myself for the possibility of having a baby a wee bit earlier than expected giving my history.

Pah it doesnt really matter, after hearing many stories in RL/ reading on here I'd much prefer baby to be "late" than "early" (despite the damn discomfort) and I know theres no way of ever really telling - it'll come when its ready/ no way of predicting.

Just would be very interested in hearing stories from mums of 2+ and how different the "arrival dates" were..

Thanks Smile

I'm watching this thread with interest!

DDs were both late (1 week late and 2 weeks late), so this one I'm fully expecting to go over with too.

Like you, I've mentally set myself up to think I've got ages yet. I haven't even thought about packing my emergency hospital bag (planning a HB), the pram is still buried in the attic, the car seat hasn't been seen for months, I've got a few babygrows ready and only today bought one pack of newborn nappies.

I'm 37 weeks Blush

My 3 DC were all 5 days late, I am expecting this one to be 5 days late. My due date to anyone that asks is the date gave me plus Also spoke to midwife who said she would expect the same this time Grin

juuule · 19/04/2011 18:35

All 9 of mine were late. :)
Some were later than others. Earliest 2days over and latest 14days over and the others in-between.

mummysleepy · 19/04/2011 18:39

My first 2 were 13 and 3 days over respectively. I am 35 weeks and kind of hoping I won't have quite so long to wait this time!! Am carrying very low but realistically think this is more to do with my lack of stomach muscles 3rd time round

Karoleann · 19/04/2011 20:37

Ds1 was 40+10 and ds2 40+8 (induced) and its my due date today. Had a sweep this morning, but not holding my breath

DC1 2weeks late emcs (9lb 2oz)
DC2 10 late vbac water birth (8lb 8oz)
DC3 2weeks elcs cause they predicted he was huge and there was no sign of body preparing for labour. (he was 10lb 3oz)

Due with#4 on the royal wedding and the suspense is already driving me mad. Even though I have told everyone there's no chance I'll have this baby before mid may, the only person who is not listening is me. Longing to go into labour, really want a vbac and know they will start putting the pressure on once I'm 'over'. Don't think it will be as big as last time as I'm much fitter and have been much more careful about what I've been eating. I strangely enjoy the whole process of giving birth and found the elcs the strangest of the three so far. Even if I end up with an emcs I would rather have laboured for a bit. Aaargh need to relax, go for some long walks. So difficult as I am feeling particularly cranky and snappy at the moment.

I loath the whole concept of a due date, cause no matter how hard you try there is this date that they have given you that becomes a goal. Two week window would be much better.

damsels · 19/04/2011 21:36

I'll keep you posted about next arrival.

I have a horrid feeling that once 'late' alway late. People carry for different lengths of time to the norm.

I also get so cross when people look and say "oh your really ready now..." "any day now..."

The irritating phone calls will start soon. "any news?"

HighHeidYin · 19/04/2011 21:40

All four of mine were 2 wks + late and induced.

cece · 19/04/2011 21:41

All three of mine were late. Despite people talling me for weeks with the last one that it would be any day now for weeks prior to due date. The last one I worked till 38 weeks and then packed my bag...

CarGirl · 19/04/2011 21:43

dd1 - induced at 41 weeks, took days
dd2 - induced at 42+3, took 10 hours
dd3 - induced at 40, took days - was so not ready to go into labour!
dd4 - induced at 42 weeks, took 11 hours.

With my 4th I just used my induction date at 42 weeks as definite - went on a day trip with 3 dc 3 days beforehand Shock - not the wisest decision really.

CarGirl · 19/04/2011 21:44

I didn't tell my toddlers I was pregnant until 38 weeks, and er not sure I packed my bags until 40ish weeks either!

mosschops30 · 19/04/2011 21:44

I think statistically you are more likely to go over again.
All 3 of mine were late
Dd - 4 days
Ds1 - 15 days
Ds2 - 16 days

BarbieLovesKen · 20/04/2011 15:20

This has been really helpful, thanks a million all.

Does appear that this one is likely to be "late" too so..

Don't bank on it...

DS1 was 9 days late. 2 years later DS2 was 8 days late. 2 years later I was pregnant with DD and had convinced myself that she would be late too just like the boys. She was born 3 weeks early. I hadn't even packed my hospital bag Blush

Also she was teeny (6lb 7oz) in comparison to the boys (8lb 9 and 8lb 10) which was a shock!

Perpetuallypregnant · 20/04/2011 23:24

Ds induced a week early so doesnt count
Dd1,2&3 all 6 days late
Dd4 due in 2 weeks, had show last week but nothing seems to be happening :(
