Hi

Been having contractions on and off for a week now. They mainly come at night and are really strong...
I was in hospital last week, on the monitor even the Dr thought this was it!! Was sent home and they settled for a hour or so but then came back and are still here. Dr said it could either be nothing or the start of my body getting ready. But surely getting ready at 31 weeks is early?

Can someone help!

I had stong regular contraction for weeks before mine was born. In some ways it's ggreat. Your body is doing loads of work getting ready and you'll slow be starting thin the cervix ect. However it such a hard mental slog. The week before he was born i work atevery morning and cried that he wasn't born yet.

Try to remember that each contraction is one closer to to birth of your baby.
Rest up as much as you can.

Hi savannah rose,

I had similar at 33 weeks, completely out of the blue. Contractions for 5 hours, every 2-3 minutes, really thought that was it! But took paracetemol and all calmed down, not come back again, am now 35 weeks. Day after I had midwife and the baby is now engaged, mw thought contractions could be due to baby moving down and engaging. Has your bump dropped? I can really feel pressure down below now. Also, in hospital they did a test called fetal fibronectin test, basically an internal when he take a swab. Results in 10 minutes, if negative, you are very unlikely to go into labour in next two weeks. Reassured me, perhaps you could mention that if you need to go back again. Regarding going back, they mentioned to me about having 3 contractions in 10 minutes, not sure if this is some kind of cut off point as have heard it mentioned before. Err on the side of caution, if you are having contractions, frequent, time them. Try changing position, having bath and some paracetemol. Also drink a lot, as dehydration can make it worse. If all this doesn't help, set s time limit of maybe an hour and then ring for advice from delivery suite. This is what I was told to do, but don't leave it very long, there is mores they can do to stop it, the earlier they see you.

Hope you are like me, and that is it... Gave me a big kick to get baby things sorted though!

Good luck x

Hi theLizard

My bump has always been low and baby's head was down at 27 weeks. Just feels like this isnt going to be a 40 week pregnancy with all these signs...

It gave me a big kick to get things ready too...packed my hospital bag yesterday. Paracetamol works but can still feel them through that, plus i know this is prob TMI but my poop has been loose since they started and i feel very sick throughout the day.

Baby is still VERY active so thats a good sign right?
