I have MW of Fiday when I'll also be 40 weeks and wondered if I can ask for a sweep straight away rather than wait another week or more... Has anyone else asked for help to get things started at 40 weeks and what sort of response did you get??

In my area (south west London), all ladies are routinely offered a sweep at their 40 week antenatal if it's their first baby......If it's your second or more, then one is offered at 41 weeks.

I don't see why your midwife would object though, it's definitely worth an ask...

Depends on the MW/area policy.

With DS2 I had a sweep at 40weeks plus 1 day. Bless them!! I was so grateful, as he was due NYE. I'd had a christmas of waiting and praying that he wouldn't be born on Christmas at all.

My lovely MW came out for a home visit on New Years Day, did a sweep, we had a long walk, sex etc and my contractions started next morning at 7.15am DS2 born at 8.02am! Joy!

You can't 'Demand' anything. You could request one. It's not likely to work in any way at 40 weeks unless you are about to start labouring though.

I wouldn't be asking for one unless they can see that things are starting to happen. IMHO of upteen of them over 4 pregnancies is that they hurt.
