Mucus plug? Or just late pregnancy discharge?

How to tell the difference? This has been happening for the last 9 days, since just before I turned 37 weeks. Looks like snot. Is it the mucus plug? Should I get excited? Anyone else experiencing similar?

Ha, about to share tmi. Sticky. Really, it's exactly like snot. Sometimes a little liquid at times in between. Straw coloured.

Mine was a massive blob of clear snot, so was very clearly the plug, although it doesn't always all come away at once apparently, could be.
Although I did still have to be induced, they broke my waters though, didn't have to have the gel, as I was already 1/2cms dilated.
Keep active and good luck! Smile

Mine had a pinkish shade to it. I read somewhere ii was meant to look like wallpaper glue. It did.
Having said that, apparently, it's not because the plug comes out that you necessarily have you DC soon. So get excited but maybe not that excited!!

Mine were more like pale jelly than snot. Not a snot-like consistency - firmer. Like glue when it's congealed.

Thanks everyone. Good luck.
WalterF, I did have one massive blob too, at the beginning of the saga.

Any news?

autumnberry · 05/04/2011 12:03

Hi Elsie. Well baby had a very active few hours last night 10-2am with lots of strong BHs. It has never been so constant as that before, so I think it won't be long now. When I woke up this morning I felt like I had been fighting all night. I am planning a home birth, but wasn't at home last night! Must get back today :)

Hi - i'm 38 +4 today and had a show yesterday am, very clear gel like blob, not pinkish/brown or bloody like some. Woke at 2.30 this morning with stomach/back ache but no contractions, lasted about 30 mins then woke up 7am more of the same for about 30 mins and have been having the odd shooting pain deep in pelvis all day today.... I'm assuming this is the latent stage of labour and fingers crossed i get to established labour soon as this can last several days :-(. Good luck all!!

ElsieR · 05/04/2011 13:34

good luck to both of you!

autumnberry · 05/04/2011 18:33

Good luck Shuv! I'm nesting in for the evening.
