New Peterborough Maternity Unit

Am planning on a home birth, but need to have a hospital backup for bloods, consultant, etc. Have to decide between Kettering, Hichingbrooke, or Peterborough. As the Peterborough hospital recently moved, I can't find any info on the new unit. Does anyone know if it's a consultant or midwife led unit? Any other info?

Hi Meggles
The new unit at Peterborough City Hospital has both a midwife led birthing unit and a consultant-led delivery suite. For more information, go to the website: www.peterboroughandstamford.nhs.uk - there are lots of pages with details on this. Good luck.

HI Meggles

I gave birth in the old MLU at the district hospital and generally it was a 'pleasant' experience! There is a consultant led unit as the main bit and a four bed MLU. I have just had a MC but kmy midwife said the new unit was even nicer than the old one, both my DH and I thought the old MLU was great, so are confident in the new one.

Hope this answers your questions?

Thought you might like to know, there is a virtual tour of the new unit on the hospital website - it shows the rooms etc.

I've heard wonderful things about the new unit from women who had their pre-birth care or gave birth there - certainly much, much better than the old one.

That said, i had DS at Hinchingbrooke despite living in Peterborough and i cannot praise it highly enough. Because it's a smaller hospital, the care you receive seems more personal. I was always in and out really quickly for blood and scan appointments.
